Getting back to the blues, I happened to find this on YouTube.
It has Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, and George "Harmonica" Smith. "Pinetop" Perkins is also on piano, in Muddy Waters' band.

That looks like a great video, Paul. I've got it bookmarked for my nocturnal viewing pleasure.

Fergyuk - terrific videos, thanks!

Doing a little catchup here on the Blues. So many excellent posts here. I don’t know where to start except to say that you guys have been hard at work finding some mighty fine music. :D
As for Gunsmoke Blues, Paul, a very nostalgic classic documentary with lots of goodies to digest. I was lucky that this one played on this side of the border. Thanks, for the post.

Thanks, to the fabulous Austin City Limits, a little contribution to Triskele’s thread:

I found another blue documentary film. Some cool stuff, although it seemed kind of sad in a way. Well, the blues isn't supposed to be happy music.

Got it bookmarked, Paul. I've been busy and haven't listened to the other one yet, but I will. :)

Paul, thank you.

I spent the morning watching Rural Blues. Loved it. No fluff or inappropriate condescending interviews. Just raw to the bone representation of each individuals’ soulful contribution to the Blues and from the Blues. Nice! Kudos to all those involved.

It showed so many things such as the different styles and interpretations which proves to the uninitiated that the Blues is not just a one trick pony, nor do you need the best guitar for the vibe. I even heard Scottie and Presley at one point.

While the Blues can be copied, experiencing life and discovering misery definitely has it’s influence on the performance. Musicianship is a wonderful thing, but it need not be perfect nor fancy. You don’t need the best voice. You do need to have your own vibe, and be able to convey it.

I was thinking what these artists would have thought to have others take their originals, and to promote them with and without compensation. My guess is some would be grateful while others would not, preferring to keep the (songs) close. It is who they are after all (as one of the men alluded to) and for some that is the one thing they can take ownership of.

I get that you felt sorrow for the individuals in the documentary, Paul. Life. unfortunately, and sometimes questionably, is harsh, and it’s easy to see that in this video.

I’ll use the Irish proverb I’ve used here before: “A man of character is richer than a man of means”, and that is certainly true here.

A quick request to the youth of the world. The Blues came to the New World by way of the Old World. It is a gift given to us from those who shared it. Cherish it, keep it alive, and share it for other generations to enjoy. It deserves that love, and it will pay you back many times. Thanks!
