I have a '68 and '69 Bassman head and cab but I forget which is which. The cab has the "drip" rails around the grill and I believe they were put on only one year so if it was '68 my amp would be a '69 or vice versa.Which is which?

The 1968 model year is generally acknowledged as the beginning of the facelift that CBS foisted upon its flagship Fender line, which introduced the polished-and-swirled aluminum front control panels, silver/black/blue grille cloth, and the anodized aluminum "drip-edge" molding around the speaker baffle boards and amp head valences.

However as a practical matter, these details began to show up in the early spring of 1967 on several student models and would not be standard across-the-line features until late in the year when existing inventories of blackface front panels and silver/white/black grill cloth were finally exhausted.

These cosmetic permutations would remain through all of 1968 at which time some minor changes were introduced. In January the grill cloth was changed to silver/white/metallic turquoise, the black vertical lines on the front panels disappeared, the "snowman" type knobs were discontinued, and (beginning in the spring of '69) the drip-edge molding began to be phased out on some models though it would be used sporadically on a few amps early into the 1970 model year (the Super Bassman illustrated in the 1970 catalog is one such example).

I have a late '67 Deluxe Reverb with the drip edge....Greg Gagliano told me it was an early example of a SFDR......he used to ask for people to fill out forms with info on vintage Fender amps,he has a lot of info on them,I don't know if he still wants stats that way now but he has posted a lot of useful information on dating amps.
Notice the black lines on the control panel between the knobs, that only lasted for a short time also.

A nice all-original example, Rick -- right down to the hardware and knobs.

And inside?

All AB763!

It doesn't get any better than this, sportsfans.
