Anyone else get invited to these with the added, "oh and bring your guitar/keyboard'?

I did last Saturday and small gathering of about 12 which went pretty well.

This coming Friday night, we're invited to a much larger gathering and I'm told there will also be a female piano professor from Berklee attending.

I told them to make sure that *she* brings a piano! The thing about these parties is that after everyone gets loaded they think that you should know and play every Christmas song that they *try* to sing - - and in their key! (most likely off-key)

Every Christmas is a sing along with my family. Song books with chords have already been passed out to all the guitarists in the family so we can "practice"...lol...not me. If I need to practice to be able to keep up with rudolph the red-nose reindeer then I might need to find a new instrument...lol. It's always fun. Especially if my uncle Steve is around, he thinks EVERY song can be played with only 3 chords; G - C - D, so he gets mad when he see's something difficult like a Bm or something...haha...good times.

I hear ya. Some tunes are easy to play. It's when one of the guest requests something like "The Christmas Songi/Chestnuts Roasting.." and everyone is singing in their own best
key....or off key....lol.

Today we had a Pot Luck lunch at work and myself and two other guys played some Christmas tunes for everyone. We had tried to play at our Thanksgiving party but since we had only decided to do it a day or two before it turned into a trainwreck. After that we practiced everyday during lunch to prepare for the Christmas party and we sounded pretty good. There was another guitarist and a keyboard player. We played Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Carol of the Bells, Oh Christmas Tree, and Christmas in Dixie. One of the other guys plays in the major orchestra bands here on the coast played a song by Larosa (SP?) on the clarinet. It was alot of fun and we're already booked for next year.

Of course, love those, well maybe depends of people involved it can me great or not so great.

Last week one of the guys from work and myself did a pot lock lunch gig involving Christmas standards and some of my ballads to make a background sound while people arrive. The other guy is classically trained guitarist and much better than me but I held my own in the Jazzy tunes (i.e Chesnuts on the open fire, etc). I did give em all on the jingle-bell-rock.

There is another one happening at my house on Saturday

The holiday party was great last night. After the usual Christmas sing-long stuff, we had some food and drink....and more drink....and more drink and ended up jamming unplugged until 2:00am!

The tylenol is starting to kick in now and I should be fine in a few hours...lol.
