Good points made by many, one reason we seem to struggle here is that we (local and national government ) wont invest in infrastructure. Easier to spend tax pounds on junkets/bullxxxx commitees or twinning with some place youve never heard of and will never visit!
So as a result roads are a wreck due to ice damage (from last winter probably) but hey we have loads of unused cycle lanes (bike riders use the pavements and to be honest i dont blame em)

When the south, ie London had little snow no one cared that the northern half of Britain was paralysed, now theve had a few inches theres programmes on the beeb saying how poor saps are spending days in heathrows terminals sleeping on the floor.......jeeze!
Its -9 to - 12 every night at the mo warming up to about - 3 ish for christmas day. :D

Snow still on the ground Niki ..... there resorting to setting fire to bits of stuff at work to try and melt it lol

Winter solstice today . . . . roll on spring 8) nice lunar eclipse as well that will have got the lads out at stonehenge !

Pish - a mere nothing. I just spent this evening driving from London (bottom right of that photo) to Devon (bottom left). No problems at all: in fact we did it quicker than usual. Some exciting spins and stuff interchanging between motorways: kid's stuff. We waved merrily at Heathrow as we raced past.

The car is now parked outside on top of a foot and a half of snow that is frozen so hard it isn't even sinking in under its own weight. If only I had my camera tripod with me I'd take a photo of the Devon countryside at night all white and snowy by the light of a full moon in a clear sky. Too pretty! :D

Cheers - C

Rip what makes it worse is that despite several heartfelt plea's to the MOD, they wouldn't give me a Harrier.
Just send em off for scrap, or sell em to some crowd out east so they can bomb us with em. No mention of poor ol' Nick in MOD offices.

I could sort all my problems out and a few more in a morning with a Harrier.

Indeed: they have a helluva pre-amp in those things... :D

BTW: Nonni, how's the off-shore banking business working out for you fellas? Living up to your expectations, is it? Fulfilling your dreams...?

It is snowing consistently here in my neck of the woods. Reminds me of the 60's and 70's when snow was piled high in the driveway and streets, and the snow was't completely melted until late April and early May. Looks like a long winter.......good guitar playing weather wouldn't you say??? :P

Well this is my first winter in england for 4 years, spent the other ones in Canada where snow is a given.

It makes me laugh people having discussions about whether to even go outside, when I'm used to celebrating when we get a few inches of snow!

People need to slap on some winter tyres and learn to drive, I saw idiot truckers doing 120km/h on the snow on the transcanada. So I'm sure people can manage to potter around our roads.

Anyway for me in Cheltenham we have had a lot over the last couple of days, but town is a mile walk and I live literally 30 seconds from where I work so I have everything I need within walking distance, doesn't worry me. Happy days :D

Lol I wouldn't know, you would have ask those dudes that owned the Icelandic banks. That club is a bit private and they did not invite me  . What sweet life that must have been... being able to take billions in loans from your own bank and never pay a dime back.
Next time I see one of'em clowns I'll ask'em and give'em what the Danish call "Go' Morgen" with my right fist, just for the Brits and Dutch. It's just my way of saying "I am sorry about'em clowns". 8)

Actually, you have a better change of meeting them. They all live in London. So if you ever meet an Icelander named Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson, or Hreiðar Már or Sigðurður Einarsson or Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson you can give them one "Go' Morgen" from me. :D

Got a few spare yardage round your way Nik, all these RAF bases closing down, maybe you could go down the I'll store them here for ya until we can afford the fuel again, oh and leave me the keys incase I have guests and the need parking space, perfect solution in my view, just be careful where you point em

Yeah its cold. I live in a detached house on the south coast with no neighbours to sponge heat off so its costing a fortune, largely due profiteering #$@*&!% gas companies. Mind you, out in the garden for half an hour with my Nunchaku and I'm toasty!

I work with a pretty hardy bunch and when we do get a bit of snow we get stuck in and shift it. Last January we were the one of the few if not the only educational establishment open in the south. I had a ton of salt for the grounds just in case. The local council was putting sand on roads due to a shortage of grit. Idiots. Still they've done slightly better this time as I have actually seen a grit lorry out and about twice in as many weeks.

Its a pretty mild 2C here at the moment compared to up north so nothing to complain about. Business as usual.

A couple of weeks back we got about a 10" of snow all over, 18" at its deepest.

NonniG,
You like the snow? Take a look at this vid I made last week bud :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itKEfFz-v70

That's awesome video, my parents dog plays excatly the same in the snow. I also used throw snowballs for her to catch or run after. Sometimes I threw snowballs into meter deep snow and she would nosedive after it. :D

Theres a fantastic place just off the A1 at Colsterworth. Wytham MOD sales.

Tanks, fire engines, all that old military stuff. I bought my last car there. Whilst there, I enquired about a 97 Mondeo with run on flat tyres, bombproof, bullet proof up to a 5.56mm round. All for £11000, for a nine year old car at the time.
I was informed that the price didn't include VAT because they were not allowed to sell it withing the UK for security reasons. The guy who owns the dealership said you could do what you liked, get in your car and just sit there. Untouchable.

Here's a Landrover their selling, similar spec.
