I've seen the weather reports and news pix from Britain and was wondering how all you guys are coping.Rotten winter is usually a given here in eastern Canada but can be devastating to places like Britain and western Europe. Are you guys coping with getting about on the roads and able to get out for groceries and Christmas shopping and the like?
I've seen the bleak pix of cars stranded on the roads and the huge traffic snarls and was wondering if it was the same all over Britain.

The staff at Heathrow (and in Britain in general) have been ridiculed here in the Icelandic media. Today there is a news story about that Heathrow closes down with couple of cm of snow but in Helsinki (Finland) they managed to keep the airport open with 2 METERS of snow. And here is the reason why:
Image
 That's no way to keep an airport open you silly Brits  .
I know I am double posting this pic, but it's just so funny :D .
Here is another one:

I should seek therapy, I'm entertaining myself way to much

Well the missus is incharge of shopping, I just provide the money. So we were all done weeks ago.
As for snow, I have no snow where I am now (South Lincolnshire) but the sky is looking heavy and white. I wonder if AL87 has any snow, he's 100mile north of me. My sisters 100mile west have around a foot and a half.
Temperatures of -9C here yesterday, rising to -4C. The heavy cloud cover is keeping things at around -2C, except for at the mother in laws house where it's around -26C when I go there.
Hard, hard frost everywhere here (worst frost I've seen in yonks). It looks like snow but is only a couple of mil thick.

Nonnig is exactly right. We've completely lost all ability to deal with the white fluffy stuff. I used to drive a old banger of a Ford Capri (notoriously bad handling) through a foot of snow, just to get to work when I was a kid. Up and down the wild country hills of the Cotswolds. Now we have all kinds of gizmos on cars (traction control and all that jazz) and people can't drive to the end of the road if theres a bit of a chill in the air.
Ok a lot of people did an do use the bad weather as an excuse to get out of work. I think our problems are stemming from that.

Don't you guys throw yer backs out try to move that heavy, wet stuff!

Bare pavement in Boston after a light few flurries overnight.

The one time I'd like to see some snow is Christmas time!

Noni makes a very valid point with his pix and post, I'll give you an example. Cumbernauld district council had £75,000.00 extra to spend in their budget, they narrowed it down to two things. A state of the art snow plough, or a useless little rinky dink statue. What did our learned friends choose.......... Yep the statue. The result I hear you all ask? Gridlock on all the roads in and out of Cumbernauld, a friend of mine spent 30 hours in his truck cab. I was out in the car today, my temp on the dash read -7. The roads are better than they were last week, but still dangerous. The shelves in most of the supermarkets were bare at one point, I have to admit it was a bit scarey. This country never used to come to a standstill in this weather, I'm still trying to work out what's changed.

It's windy as hell here CT, and the weather people are calling for snow tomorrow and on Christmas day, so who knows. Did I mention how cold and windy it was?

Don't blame me! I haven't been near the place.

Our snow is still in the mountains (which I'm looking at right now).

Sorry, just discovered the "color option".

This is from 2 years ago. (My house is behind the trees.)

We're getting away pretty good as far as lack of snow goes but the whole province has been hit with high winds-up to 80+MPH in some areas. The ferries running between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland have been shut down until at least Christmas Eve leaving hundreds stranded on both sides.
I am waiting for all my wife's Christmas gifts to arrive but it looks like they won't get here because the bulk of our mail comes across on the ferries.I guess I'll have to cut the pix out of the catalogues and give them to her.

It is snow now in Helsinki, but no 2 meters; just 60-70 centimeters... Strangely Helsinki is now most snowiest place in Finland.
It will be around -20 to -30 C round Finland by christmas time, anyway it doesn´t matter inside office I write this is now + 23 C :D
...strangely there is no outdoor concerts now!
Everything is working quite normally, nothing is closed, traffic might be little late, winter is normal situation here comparing smoggy Britain and Western Europe.

Hey Snowy. What's up with the background of your picture? You seem to have good fortune with the ladies. :) Nice video of you and Charlie. Man's best friend. :)

I like the snow in December but in march I get sick of it and start to count down to spring. I'll have to watch your vid when I get home from work.

The news story that I quoted claimed that the airport in Helsinki managed to stay opened with 2 meter snow last winter forgot to mention that in the orginal post  .
BTW, nice to see another Scandinavian around 8)

The now retired squadron of Harrier jump jets could have been recalled and had those runways cleared in a few passes, no problem, chalks away.
