 three hours? good golly Miss Molly! well funny you mentioned it , 'cause I bought Mr. Bailey's DVD "Dandelion Mind" only three days ago. I quite enjoyed it, especially the art lesson about doubting Thomas, and the congregation of the fellowship of "Oud!".

To nearly get into a show you wanted is like nearly getting a sweater you wanted, right? :? Anyway, to pastures new!

Cheers

Ultimate snowy weather footwear, and a absolute requirement for any gig.

German army issue Paratrooper boots.
Cost £20 years and years ago. Get you anywhere. Keep your feet warm and dry, unless you're up to your knees in water. And their brilliant for gigs. You can hit two pedals at the same time.

Ah, now that's the show I did attend a couple of weeks ago. I loved the Doubting Thomas animations, and now every time we stop for a motorway coffee we recite his line about "Slavic Costa coffee bots dispensing the corrugated cardboard cups of milky disappointment..." :D

So happens, I actually have an oud. (Did you know that, Nutter? If you did - well, no need to mention how... :D )

Don't know what Bill does with his on the video (less or more than we saw the night we were there) but it is safe to say I can get even less of a tune out of mine than he from his. Flippin' impossible instrument to play. Or even to tune...! :(

I did know that, Ceri-San. Where did you acquire it?
Maybe playing it is like learning the ways of the force. You just have to be very patient. But putting your lightsabre away on top of a wardrobe is most probably not going to make anyone a Jedi... But, as they say, at least you have the tools. Should you one day feel a sudden urge to wield the Oud (English is a nice language, eh?), at least you have one!

Ah! What sounds so good?
The Oud, the Oud!

Anyway. Back to Bill. He did a nice C&W tune about a guy with a dandelion mind on his Oud. Charming, but short. :)

Hi Gratz! I haven't used the pickups yet, but I haven't forgotten, either! How's the business going?

Happy Christmas! :D

Istanbul.

Ah-ha!

Still. It's a very cheap one so the dust probably won't hurt it too much...

Well well. Our night he did that tune on a citern instead. He can obviously mix it up.

Far as the oud went, he just did a tiny quick twangy line on it for a minute simply to demonstrate that he could barely play the fecker.

Before that he went through a long routine of holding it up and asking the audience if anyone could name what it was. Calls of; "A guitar. A lute. A saxophone..." Eventually someone named it an oud, and then he said; "Ah, but what sort of oud?" A doubting silence and then suggestions of; "A wooden one. Yours. An out of tune oud..." Finally someone suggested; "An Iranian oud," which was more or less right. "We tend to call it a Persian oud," Bill slightly corrected.

At which point someone started heckling him - in Farsi. Which lead to a long and surprising improvisational digression...

...It's all good clean fun. :D

Cheers - C

This has got to be one of the most disjointed threads I've seen in a long time, so I don't feel too bad hijacking it a little further!

Oud master and all around oud guy, David Lindley.

Merry Christmas Gratz. Have a bosta of a day (and all the other days too  )

Loving that Dave Lindley's playing. Great use of low drone notes.

Just wanted to pop in and thank Brad for sorting out my account for me... I was stuck in a loop of (in)activation emails. He really does do a good job, that man. Nice to be back and checking out the new place...
