i was upset to see Angus and David Gilmour rated so low. I mean Angus Young at #96?! What about Robby Krieger at #91?! How about Tony Iommi? He lost the tips of fingers and still kept on going. Definitely should be up in the top 20

Question:Was this list made up by a group of non guitarists?

Jimmy Page at #9 is too high?? Not in my opinion. BB King at # 3 is the one I have a problem with. This list is just some reporters opinion. Like they say some stink worse than others.

Some would disagree. From allmusic.com:

Universally hailed as the reigning king of the blues, the legendary B.B. King is without a doubt the single most important electric guitarist of the last half century. His bent notes and staccato picking style have influenced legions of contemporary bluesmen, while his gritty and confident voice -- capable of wringing every nuance from any lyric -- provides a worthy match for his passionate playing.

The bold italics are mine.

He was the 3rd best King in my opinion.

You're not wrong there, M4N!

"Egg-spurt" polls like these are a reminder why I prefer Charmin over Rolling Stone in the bathroom.

Three quarters of these picks are people I (A) never heard of, (B) can't stand, or (C) find to be as banal on guitar as Celine Dion is with a microphone.

"The Edge"???

He has less significance to me than the size, shape, color, and consistency of my turds.

PFFFFFFFFT!

I enjoyed reading about each of the players. I ignored the ranking though because that is nothing more than personal taste.

I agree, I must say I pretty much hate all these lists of "'best guitarist ever", "best group ever", "best singer ever" etc.

This time of year is pretty bad, you cannot turn on the radio without the dj announcing number 3872 of best song ever.

There just is no best guitarist ever, and there will never be. There are a lot of great guitarists, today I might really enjoy Eric Clapton, tomorrow I am maybe more in the mood for Jimi Hendrix or Chuck Berry or....

Again, seems that BB King at #3 without T-Bone Waker or Lonnie Johnson on the list anywhere is comical. T-Bone was a HUGE influence on BB and you can tell it in BB's playing. Same with Lonnie Johnson, as he was the first to use his guitar in-between lyrics to make it "cry" the way BB is famous for doing with his riffs in-between verses. Lonnie was an even bigger influence that T-Bone was and you can hear both of them in BB's playing, although his skill and ability doesn't surpass either.

This list is closer to what I would agree (not totally) with but it's only the Rock genre. But this is a great site with tons of artists and videos. Check it out
