Hi,

Sorry if this is a duplicate-post. Had trouble the first time around.

I'm 43 and started taking guitar lessons six months ago. I have no regrets - if I never get good it's OK - it makes me happy.

I'm curious to know if there are any others here who started lessons as an adult, at what age, and if you've become at least competent, how long did it take you to get that far.

Thanks.

I am 32 and have only played for 1 yr and 8 months. I am in the same boat as you, I play for therapy and to have fun, I could care less about being a great guitarist. I am happy just to be able to play at the local blues jam and jam with friends. I started taking lessons 1 year ago and it really helped me to progress. Before lessons I was just strumming acoustic songs and after I have learned more about playing lead/soloing, scales and a lot more chords. Have fun and enjoy man, that is what it is all about. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum. I started at 52 and 8 years later I'm as good as I ever was. If you can play three chords you're a guitar player. Above that, everybody's working on it at their own level and pace. Most everybody on here is a hobbyist. I can only think of two who made or make their living as a musician. Have fun! :)

Welcome to the forum...I started playing when I was 10, and played on and off over most of my life due to work and raising a family. I`m 62 now and thinking about going for a refresher course. Age means nothing, if you have the desire to learn then go for lessons. All it can do is help you.

I used to play a little as a teen but had an injury to my left ring finger and quit playing altogether until last year at age 49. There is tons of free online lessons and info and am teaching myself along with the online help. I'm having a blast and have improved quite a bit since last year. Music is the natural buzz! So don't feel alone.

Don't know, don't really care, I just keep pluging away at it.
