Hand Carved Guitar Bodies

I have absolutely no connection in any way shape or form to this craigs list post. I just thought it looked interesting and some of you might like it:

There is a guy in NJ selling them on e-bay as well.

ive seen these on ebay too. im not so sure those are hand carved.
i would think he would ask a small fortune for them if they were. i bet they are done with a CNC machine.

They absolutely look to be CNC'd to me as well.

My goodness! You can almost hear the sound of the tonemonkeys feet as they run to their keyboards to type their dismay. "That's not going to sound any good! It'll wreck the sustain!"

I like it the same way I like people who color their hair blue. Or guys that are willing to smoke $75 worth of rubber off their tires just for my entertainment.

I don't want to own one, but it's great that someone has come up with the idea.

Cool.

Hi ChrisNJ.I built one of these guitars and I love it.Mine is a solid mahogany strat body with a carving of a dragon with its tail wrapped around an angel. It has a solid, highly figured zebrawood neck with green abalone dots. The pickguard looks like a piece of antique hammered chinese metal art with two dragons on it with green eyes ,with a matching back plate. It has Fender Vintage noiseless pickups and all the hardware is Fender American Standard or Fender American Series.I love it. It looks, plays and sounds great.I'd submit some pics on here but I couldn't figure out how to do it.If you'd like to see the pics,I would gladly send them to you.In fact maybe you could post them here so other interested people could see how the bodies turn out when they are finished.Just leave a message in my yahoo mail at shadow72255,as to where I can mail the pics.

Losing a lot of wood there...I'm not into art guitars too much, same reason I dislike a lot of PRS' and boutique guitars...

Every year my wife gets me a Fender Custom Shop Calender with their logo "WHEN YOU'RE READY".

When I'm ready for what exactly. Fancy paint jobs and glued on tsotchkes? Those guits are stupid. Did you see the gold-leaf strat for Prince?

Now, at least these bodies take some time and talent to actually sculpt. A paint job is a can of Krylon. If Fender's "Master Builders" did one of these, it'd sell for $15 LARGE. But I'll bet that's not going to sound any good! It'll wreck the sustain! (with a  to gridlok)

I believe those bodies were done with a CNC as someone posted earlier.

As for Krylon, I just applied the last clear coat on a strat body. 4 days of painting, a couple of weeks to cure, so I really do not see the need to get on a high horse here.
I also have the calendar, but I'm not bitter about it. It is a Custom Shop, so if that's what Prince wanted, why not, that is his style and since he's paying for it, it is a moot point

If Skynyrd came out playing that guitar, we'd all be scratching our heads as to what did we miss  :? It is after all Entertainment, but where are you going with this :?: :?:

I know gridloc is maddening in Cal. but it isn't very amusing back east either.

It's no different to some of the crazy paint jobs on guitars. I'm planning something similar with my natural finished mex strat body. Mine won't be as radical though, just shallow carving with a Dremel. Something along the lines of the CS Phoenix Strat a few years back.
It's all about self expression.
