I traded my new Epi 56 Goldtop that I bought in September for a Cherry Dot with a hard case. I've been jones-ing for a semi-hollow body ever since I sold my ES-339 earlier this year. For some reason I did not fall in love with playing the Goldtop. The Dot is in mint condition and is a 2001 made in Korea. The guy who traded me also gave me a couple of tubes for my Epi Valve Junior head. I got the Goldtop on sale for $399 and the Dots are currently going for $399 so I'm pretty happy with the trade. I'm guessing folks will think I got the slightly worse end of the deal.

The action, fit, and finish on the Dot are really excellent and it plays beautifully. I'm going to play it for a while before I do any mods, but there's always a chance I'll swap out the pickups. I was hoping for a Sheraton, but I'm pretty happy with the Dot. I'll post a pic or two tomorrow. I'm also glad there's now room in my stable for another Goldtop, maybe the Bonamassa model...

I'd say you came out on top Kong, the Korean built stuff seems, in what I've gathered, to have a better build quality than what's coming out of China, I had a few niggles with a couple of MIC Sheri's before parting with my cash, although I don't seem to be playing it much these day's, Baja Tele trade playing on my mind :?

Kong,
Nice one, everyone needs at least one hollow body.

Enjoy,

I love the semi-hollowbody ES-335 wannabes. I have an Ibanez AS83 plus an Epi Wildkat (w/P90's). Different tones, but both are sweet. They suit my styles better than my LP wannabe, although I do like the LP for an occasional switch.

I'm curious as to why you sold the ES-339. I've been eyeing them up and thinking of getting one.

Kong, beautiful Dot. I also love semi-hollows/hollows for their wide open tone. I have a CS336 and an ES335, and there's nothing like them, though the 335 is a bit on the heavy side for a hollow-body due to the Bigsby.
Enjoy it!

Only sold the 339 due to economics. I got it from Musicians friend for $1400 (a steal!) and was not playing it much. It was a customer return, but it was PERFECT, not a scratch. It played great and was beautiful, but I always kept it in the case because it was so nice. I would always play whatever is sitting on the guitar stand so it was a chore to dig out the 339 from under the bed. I ended up selling it for 1600 so I made 200 bucks on the deal. I had put it on craigslist and did not expect to get any offers, I never would have let it go for a loss. I may get another one day but for now I'm really bonding with this dot. To be honest, I think I like the 335 size much better than the 339, not sure why just feels really nice in my hands. I may get a Sheraton or the real-deal 335 in the future.

Oh and thanks for the nice remarks from the rest of you guys.

I played an AS83 last week when I was in Mississippi and man that thing played great and sounded awesome through a mid-70s Princeton. I was totally impressed, fit and finish were nice, it was a nice sunburst flame top, pickups sounded amazing to my ears.

It was tough getting rid of the goldtop, but there was something about the way it felt to me especially in the higher frets. I can't really put a finger on it, but it just was not right to my fingers. I have an Epi Custom Silverburst that feels perfect to me all up and down the neck. I really did like the P-90s, and I'll have to get another P-90 guitar at some point.

Nice guitar, I think you made out pretty nicely in that trade, after all you got the EPI LP on a special price deal right? In the end you got a upgrade. If you end up getting the Bonamassa Epi you'll have to let us know how it is. I love the 335 style guitars, after the Telecaster they are my favorite and absolute blues machines! Here is my 1977 Guild Starfire IV NB. Wouldn't trade this guitar for anything.

BCB - that thing is gorgeous! I love it. The tailpiece and pickguard are super bada$$! Guild makes some nice instruments, I bet that thing plays and sounds like a dream.

Thank you thank you! I wanted one of these for a while and finally found one that was priced right. It has some battle scars but structurally it is perfect. I always loved mahogany and the natural finish on this one is great. The best part are the vintage Guild Hb-1 humbuckers which are unreal.
