I don't care how big the company is. It's not good business for any mfg. to make up due dates to simply appease customers.

Would you rather them to just say "we don't have a slight idea when you will get your guitar?"

If that were to happen you would see a whole new thread of people complaining "why doesn't fender know when I'll get my guitar!?"

I don't like where these threads go, someone ends up getting mad or hurt- we are all entitled to opinions. Keep it friendly.

And I don't think niki is going no where- He's such a huge contribution to this forum I couldn't imagine it without him.

Maybe I'm just oldschool in that I walk into a shop, try a guitar, if I like it pay for it, leave with it.
If that is the action of someone who smacktalks, whatever the hell that is. Then more power to it. You certainly don't see me griping like a three year old on a internet forum about how I paid to wait. You paid your money and made your choice.

If you believe what a salesman tells you, that's your lookout. Not the wisest choice in the current climate is it? Your customer service is from wherever you bought the guitar, not Fender. That's who you have done business with, can't you see that? All you have are the words of a salesman in a guitarshop somewhere.

Thankyou Smokey.

Haha. NO I would rather them give me a date based on facts rather than the whole "next month" response. The other guy had fender tell him "next month" for nine months. So he cancelled his order. So are you saying that its his fault for ordering a signature guitar? No...I think that we are both simply saying...don't give us bs dates. Yes I would rather have fender say "we don't have a clue...it could be a year" rather than "next month". I don't know why anyone feels the need to argue about this. Simply put...a couple of us have ordered guitars....fender moves the date every month....we don't like it. period.

Christmas is approaching we are all jittery, tired and hungry. Okay, we are all feeling better now sighhhh...

bword and DerGeist you should throw this question to the Mike Eldred's side of the fence. He is the CS marketing (perhaps sales too) guru. Maybe he can point out someone useful at fender to answer. Customer service via email is a hit or miss.

BTW nice avatar Niki, who is that next rock star?

I live in Dallas. No one here had stock on a Thurston Moore Jazzmaster. Guitar Center couldn't even get one. I decided to order from my local shop whom I have done business with for over 10 yrs. They are honest. I don't really need to hear your opinions on what is "wise" etc. Thats why I told you to take a walk. Now you have turned this thread into a nonsensical, typical forum of bickering back and forth about nothing. Some of us that special ordered guitars through a disty FROM FENDER would like to know when we might be receiving them. This information comes directly from Fender....my guitar shop doesn't simply make up an answer. If you want to argue about the semantics of whom is providing customer service I'm not interested. We cannot get straight answers from FENDER therefore we ended up here. If you don't want to here about it don't read the thread. I don't care what your thoughts are on the topic as you are not a Fender employee nor do you have a guitar on back order with Fender.

Ok so when I bought a guitar and traveled to pick it up from the shop, when ther were only 3 of the model in the country, I was not wise.

I certainly didn't whine like some baby on a internet forum about the wait.

The simple fact is that you went and paid for something and walked out the shop without the product.
You really need some shopping lessons. Take your missus with you next time eh.

I never made a personal comment about your wisdom, or lack thereof. lol so now we're name calling? You're right almighty nijafuk. I should have flown to England to pick one up. Next time I'll call you for advice before a buy a guitar.

And now to beat a dead horse corpse....I was not "whining" about the wait. As I've said numerous times...I'm unhappy with the response I receive from Fender. Like I said I would wait a year if Fender told me it would be a year. But I don't want to go to my shop every month so they can tell me "Fender said next month" over and over.

I can see that with the artist series wait can be a problem. My strat was just an '08 American standard, basically the model T of fender's lineup so I was able to get mine in time.

Best wishes though and maybe something will happen to where you'll get your TM Jazzmaster before christmas.

But if you don't, I wish you a merry Christmas :)

Really hope Fender gets their act together, i just put money down on an Yngwie Strat and was told by the shop owner, that Fender said it would be in for mid February, which he then said would probably be more like late February. Either way, i can live two months..so, here's hoping :D

Ok...I'm out on this one...too much animosity :)

I never meant anything to go this far. It was kind of a funny coincidence that bword and myself had a long wait for exactly the same guitar and online misery loves company.

FWIW I never paid for anything up front so I never really risked anything more than a little disappointment. Here is a brief history of how it went down (I will leave it at that). I ordered a guitar in April, I asked the shop to call fender to find out how ling it will take (before I ordered). Fender told my dealer it would be in my hands in May. Since that time my shop has called fender several times and fender gave them shifting dates (6 in total). Honestly to answer someones question from earlier, I would prefer Fender say they have no idea when my guitar would arrive rather then give me false dates. All it did was get my hopes up that my guitar would arrive at a time when it wouldn't. Rightly or wrongly (but I think understandably) that breeds frustration. Its like believing that this is finally the time Lucy won't pull the football away and being disappointed (again). Unfortunately, if I learned a lesson here, and I'm a pretty slow learner, it was not to order a guitar from Fender -- yeah yeah, from a fender through a dealer (honestly I can't think of anything more my dealer could have done).

Anyway, I canceled my order, got my $125 deposit back, bought a Dr Z Maz 18 with the money I had put aside and am happy. Life goes on. I'm happy with my amp and fender won't miss my money. I do kind of feel for smaller shops who seem to be having a hard time getting Fenders in stock.

I think Niki did hit the nail on the head by suggesting that if you want a specific guitar you need to be prepared to travel for it. That is a lesson I have learned. I would not, based solely on my experience, recommend ordering a guitar from Fender. Others have had more success.

Anyway, I don't have a pony in this race anymore. I just wanted to give everyone some insight into where I was coming from.

Anyway, I have a powerful combination of GAS and ADD -- nine months after I order something I want something different :)

Best wishes to all

Its funny, it was a hard choice between the Thurston model and the Lee model in the first place. In the end it came down to fret size and pickups.

Maybe I will cross my fingers and hope they put out a Jim O'rourke Tele Deluxe :)
