hey guys,
if its possible, when brad and his crew redo the forum
wouldnt it be nice to have a section that we can go to to discuss
technical issues like pups, bodies, necks, builds, how-to of all sorts.
this way it would be easier to find and do research,as well as keep track of
projects. who knows maybe he has plans for this already, or maybe it hasnt crossed his mind. it would be impossible to go back and move posts over but it could be a fresh start for a very interesting section.

I think a build/DIY forum would be cool. But as far as general tech questions go if I had a question about a Stratocaster build wouldn't I just post it in the Stratocaster forum? Or if I had a question about pickups, wouldn't I just post it in the pickups forum? But if we're talking about something really specific, like building your own pickups or how to do a refret then yes, I think a tech forum would work for that.

I don't think having a tech/diy page will change anything. I think builds are something tolerated by Fender and not actively encouraged. It doesn't sell their products, does it? Mod's do sell pickups and parts.

Lets face another fact here. Most posts are in the wrong place anyways, no one seems to care too much. It don't worry me at all.
I'd like to see a Fender Technical support section but think that it would be limited. Fender employees can't really go getting involved or advise people putting in 3rd party parts into their guitars. Not that they don't know about that stuff, just that it could be misconstrued as the company endorsing such actions. When in reality they void product warranties.

No vote from me because despite the above, I don't disagree with the idea. Would rather the brainpower went towards something else though.
Maybe a cookery section :P

That said, the build threads are popular and do draw new people to the forum which is kind of good for Fender...

People will post where they think they have the best chance of get their thread viewed. There are often posts on pickups in the Strat Forum that could have been posted in the Pickup Forum but a shed load more users view the Strat forum so....

I think Brad and Co. have got the Forum Sections pretty well sorted and i can't see any additional sections being a huge benefit.

Probably best to have improvements made to the search function.

Andy

Yeah - I love the build threads and have done some myself. But I don't want to be shunted off into a little ghetto for the dozen or so of us that are into that stuff. I want to be part of the wider party.

In the Strat or Tele forums or just the Lounge someone might see a build thread who didn't know that stuff went on and so discover interesting new possibilities.

I'm not too keen on pigeonholes. Let's all play in the same kindergarten... :)

Cheers - C

build threads arent the only purpose for the section.
theres tons more pup, electrical, and how-to's than build threads.
