Hi folks,

I am looking at buying my first fender, and have been looking at two 2nd hand guitars. One is a strat and the other a tele. I have done some research and asked some questions. Problem is both guitars serial numbers dont add up, on the fender website, it says that one should be MN7+5 digits, but the guy selling it says that it is a 97 Mex guitar but has MN7 + 6 digits. And it's the same with the other but is a different seller, I'm confused!

Any advice please, thanks!

Frankie

Hi Fcarroll,

Sometimes there are 5 digits after the MNx, and sometimes there are 6, both are legit, but typically it will be 6, especially on newer models. The Fender site does have a couple of mistakes, maybe they haven't updated it in awhile. If you have the complete serial number, you can contact Fender for any info that they might have. :)

Hi Shimmilou,

Have been reading up on the serial numbers, have to say it is fascinating! Thank you for clearing up about the 5 and 6 digits, it's the first time I have heard some saying it. At the end of the day it seems to be about the sound, just don't have enough knowledge about what is a good sound yet, thanks again.
