the past several months I have noticed or it seems that more videos on youtube have ads for the first 10-30 seconds and then whatever the video is with pop-up ads blocking the screen during the video. has anyone seen this too or read anything about why and how this is happening?

Hit F5 when the ad comes up. That will skip past most of the ads.

Me too. Fantastic if that works (though SBLS seems to be saying it doesn't). Those ads drive me insane. Stop wasting my life away for me Google, you ****wits! (I'm more than capable of wasting my life for myself.)

Google seem to think just saying "do no evil" is enough. It isn't!

Scary, creepy organisation...

C'mon Ceri, what have Boogle done to you now?
Aside from photographing you for Boogle maps?

BTW can't you legaly stop them using photographs of your property? Much the same way you can stop anyone publishing a photo of you.

There was a speeding case in Scotland where the driver prosecuted the police for an invasion of his privacy because they'd photographed him without his consent.
Surely the same applies? How about the ever touchy subject of them photographing kids without parental consent? They don't have to publish the photo in that case, just taking it is bad enough. Their wide open for a absolute bucketload of trouble should anyone ever decide to press the matter.

Next time the camera van comes round, I'm in the garden mooning them. Give some poor sod the thankless task of editing that out!

Yeah - if anyone takes a virtual tour of my neighbourhood on Google and sees a guy in a white T-shirt making obscene hand gestures from the side of that road - that's me! :D

But quite seriously for second, in the book publishing world Google are currently trying to pull off the biggest copyright theft in human history. It makes the entirety of Chinese product piracy look like baby stuff by comparison.

A strange thing: in the minds of most of us Americans are the most litigious people on the planet - and yet the American publishing industry rolled over and instantly gave up in the face of Google's onslaught. The rest of the world is fighting it every step of the way and gradually winning, but only on an obscenely expensive case-by-case basis.

If you're curious I'll email my wife and see if she can give me a useful page about it all to link to. The countless hours of her professional life she's already wasted on the little ****ers, after all...

Cheers - C

Very interested. I take any threat on our literary heriatage and continued level playing field for authors very seriously.

Who the hell do they think they are? Shower of bloody upstarts.

I think the borderless world of the internet is leading to a real borderless world. So I guess we do actually need a world police. (irony and sarcasm).

Out pressie shopping yesterday for my 3 girl terror squad, toying with the idea of getting brains one of those E book tablets. Final conclusion, NO. Reading via screen is just not the same as thumbing a old dog eared book that you've spent hours pouring over, to the point of developing a relationship with. Ebooks and LCD screens will never have that, losing that to the slightest degree will lessen us all.

Time to boycott Boogle? Could well be, get me a link please.

In my crusty middle-aged way I entirely agree.

However, the e-book has been heralded for all the years I've known my wife (she's in publishing, for anyone as is wondering) and it does seem to have finally arrived in a form that works and is here to stay. If you do decide to plump for one after all to my own surprise I have to recommend the Amazon Kindle. My wife has all the competing models in the office and as far as dedicated readers are concerned that one is well ahead of the Sony just at present.

Though she just gave in and finally bought an iPad as well. Which also functions very well as a reader and of course has all its other features too.

Be aware, there is at present no platform that gives you access to all published material. But the Kindle has leapfrogged ahead of Sony and is currently the least restricted.

Regarding the link about the Google thing: I believe my wife is out of the office till later on, but I've sent an email and will let you know when I get something back.

Cheers - C

I think their set to be a flash in the pan. No one serious about their books is going to rely solely on data copies, are they? Somehow I can't see Cambridge keeping all their reference documents as data only.

Let's face it, they wouldn't be the worlds no1 if they were that stupid.

I find the light on the things all wrong, way too harsh to enable a decent level of comfort for prolonged reading. I used a Ebook gizmo quite a bit as a easy way to reference relevant info when I built my amp and pedal. Simply took the bits I wanted, copied em to PDF, put em on the tablet.
