just wondering....

this 56 year old guitarist is looking to play out again. i checked the local music store, and it seems as if any postings there are looking for metal players... not my thing

someone suggested trying craigslist. went on the musicians forum, and what a joke. everybody who posts seems to get nasty responses about them, and i need no part of that.

my connections that i had in my early playing days are pretty much gone, so my questions to my fellow players is quite simple-

where do you look for players? i want to play out a couple times a month. play some covers, and try some originals too. not looking to make a living full time with it- just want to have fun and entertain too

are there websites you can recommend?- thanks for listening

If you are ecclesiastically-oriented, you could give a go to joining a church band, just to see if you are up for the practices and working with others and regimen.

'Worked here. 220 Masses and services, and counting.

Best of fortune.

This 56 year old guitarist is also looking for someone to play classic rock and maybe some originals-too bad Ohio is such a long commute.

It can be tough reconnecting. Sometimes local open mics/open jams can introduce you to other musicians. Also, I have found a couple of contacts through Bandmix.com. You can browse the site for free to see if there are likely prospects, but must join (for a fee) to make contact.

I used to use the UK version of this site, quite a bit.

http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/us.php

Good site, somewhat overpopulated by kids and dreamers in the UK. Found some very good contacts through it. Formed my last band through that site solely. That is the US site, despite the .co.uk address ending.

Other than that, post a advert for a drummer in a drum mag, bassist in a bass mag, etc.
I always giggle at the dummies who post adverts like this in the back of guitar mags.

Quote:
15 year old metal guitarist wants
Bass
Drums
27 piece brass section
Keys
Congo's
Bongo's
Steel Drums
For a techno jazz deathmetal reggae fusion band in the rear end of nowhere. Must be commited to rehearsing 19 times a week, have transport and pro level gear. Ages 14-17 only please.

What makes em think that those players would be reading a guitar mag for starters.

Could this be up your street. Aren't you a bassist PhreddyBee, or am I getting confused again.

Well theres a whole site there with adverts for musicians by musicians within your locale.

You should find something there.

Are there any jams/open mic in your area? That's really the best option IMO, not only do you get to meet other musicians but you'll be able to hear 'em play and you can ask if they're interested in getting together for a jam...

RVM lead and cedarblues suggestion about open mic/jam night opportunity's works. I have met musicians from as far away as Canada that fly in to Chicago just to jam at clubs here. I have looked on craigslist, bulletin board at guitar center, local music papers any of the suggestions so far that will produce a gig for you would be cool.

Some of those ads are a riot

Must have own transportation, pro gear, half stack, PA, and lots of "experiance" and no ego. Ages 17 to 14 only.

And please, I'm not trying to be a jerk but no fat guys with baggy pants.

And to make it worse they live in a town with a population of 3. The nearest town being 700 miles away.

the open mic jam idea has worked out for me real well. I run one on sunday nights and have been able to hook up with a great bassist, drummer and singer guitar player. Im 52 and like the same kind of music.
I also hire out of the open mic for pay gigs the rest of the week. Find your community of like minded musicians and suuport each other, than magic will happen. Works for me.
