My wife (BoK) had her Master's graduation ceremony last night for MSU. While in town she let me stop in a local music store. I played a Peavy ES-335 knockoff through what I think was labeled as a 1975 or 76 Princeton Amp. It was a small combo with 1 speaker. I didn't ask the wattage, and played a bit with the guitar. It did not hit me until after I left how sweet I thought that amp sounded. I think I'm starting to see or hear what all you tone junkies are talking about. I'm not that in love with my Valve Jr. I'm wondering what mods I could make to oper her up and get a bit sweeter tone. I think it is on the dark side as it is (stock). I've heard guys suggest an EQ pedal. Does anyone on here have any other suggestions? I was also thinking of adding a spring reverb to the Junior.

Also thinking of getting an Epi Dot Deluxe - they're at Musician's friend for 399 including a hardshell case.

By the way that Peavy played pretty nice and had a nice chunky neck. I thought the pickups were excellent as well. I don't remember the model, but I did see a Made in China label on the back of the headstock.

Congrats to your Wife on her Masters Kong. Although I'm not really an amp professor, I would look into upgrading the tubes and maybe the speaker if they are stock. anything more than that you might want to shop around for another amp. I'm sure someone will post some more descriptive mods for you. Good Luck. 8)

Congrats to Missus Kong!!!

I have a Valve Jr. head / cab. I put new tubes in and it it made a bit of a difference nothing major however - I do like the amp though as it give a nice tone at lower volume. Good for home use. There are mods that can be made...check the BitMo site, could give you some ideas....

It was actually called Backstage Music on rte. 12.

Thanks for all the congrats. BoK really appreciates the nice comments. Her degree is in Earth Sciences and she got straight A's as well! We had a fun time down there.

Congratulations to BoK! and congrats to you Kong! I'm sure you will make a good decision on the gear, it all sounds good to me. the dot is a great guitar you won't have to think too much about tone with that one just how loud you can play.

congratz to ms kong.
i would suggest a EQ pedal on all rigs.
so many different tones can be had with one of those.
may i suggest my personal choice from Boss or the MXR EQ's.
both are very nice indeed.
second look for a different speaker. a speaker change alone can make a world of difference sometimes.
