Wel guys, I'm at my blood donation center right now, with the big needle in my arm. In the last few months, they convinced me to switch from blood to platelets donation, because with my type of blood, I can donate more often. And also the platelets can be used directly for cancer patients that need chemiotherapy, and newborn babies who have a low level of platelets.
Anyway, as usual this is just my bi-annual reminder about blood donation. So If you can give, please consider helping someone with the gift of life. As it has already been said, blood donation is not something that can be done by everybody, but spreading the word is just another way to help those who are less fortunate. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all the Fender forum members and their families.

Before I left, they took this picture by surprize, I didn't have time to remove the blanket on my arm, but anyway, this is me, plugged into the plasma machine. About the minimum legal age, I don't know. Better check with your local blood donation center.

Thank you Claude! A very Merry Christmas to you and yours Bro! So nice of you to be a blood donor. Although I have been a donor in the past, the blood bank nearby insists they don't take donations of my blood type. CM or BD.
Captain Morgan or Bacardi Dark

my wife and i donate blood plasma, so we cannot give blood. blood plasma goes to hospitals and is most commonly used for burn victims. i have a friend that was burned on over 85% of his body when he was 7, so i like to think i have been helping kids get better.

when you donate plasma, they take out blood, then spin all the red cells out. what is left is the white cells and plasma. its cool because you can actually watch the bottle of plasma fill up right in front of you, its got a yellow tint to it. when the extraction is done, they reconstitute the red cells with sodium chloride (NaCl, 0.9% Normal Saline) and put it back in your body. you an donate plasma up to twice a week, but no more than twice within 7 days time.

I know that in SC you have to be 17 with parental consent, and you can do it yourself by 18.

I gave blood a couple of weeks ago for the first time. :D It was on my "to-do when I turned 18" list. And it wasn't too bad at all, but thats because I have no problem with needles...

They were having a Clemson vs. USC blood drive, and I had to support my tigers. I want to find out what my blood type is because my sis has some rare blood type and I wonder if I inherited that.

Hey jimbo, congrats on your first blood donation. I wish I started at a younger age myself but hey, it is something that you do only when you're ready. The least we can do is to bring on the subject from time to time and not bore people to death with that. I restrain myself from bringing the subject more than twice a year here on the forum because of that. There is many ways to help and we have to find our own way to make a difference. Congrats again.

Good for you Claude, blood banks have a huge demand for blood products this time of year largely due to the increase of motor vehicle crashes caused by the escalating in drunk driving. As I have a rare blood type(6% of the population)I was called upon for my blood products on the very day I was eligible to donate again but because of meds I'm prescribed and diabetes I can no longer give.I used to almost faint every time I gave blood but felt I had a duty.Everyone who is able to should give up a half hour every couple of months to help save someone's life or even several lives.Believe me the good feeling you get for doing good for someone far outweighs any feeling faint or squeamish you may get.
