I was walking through the mall today and saw a Christmas tree with paper angels on it. The Salvation Army apparently has a program where you take an angel and buy a gift for the child. One of the angels showed that the 12 year old wanted a guitar for Christmas. I just got back from Guitar Center where I bought her a Fender Malibu acoustic electric guitar and a Getting Started DVD. Hopefully this will make the child happy for Christmas! I know it brightened up my day to do it!

Mate I can tell you, there is no better feeling in my experience than from watching someone learn to make music. I've played to crowds of 5K plus and done much like you, given a guitar to a nameless face. I've also spent a bit of time showing new players a few chords and how to hack your way through a song.
I've also received many guitars in return, and other trinkets too.

I've never had anything I could say repaid giving the joy of playing to someone. I think it is one of the truely selfless, un-repayable gifts on the planet.

BTW I won a Malibu here on this forum. It's a great acoustic, nice toppy sound with a strong low mids. Rings like Frodo's dilema.
