I'm not sure shootouts like this ever work. I have a couple of Gibsons and a couple of fenders. If I plug afender into my amp after playing my gibson through it I think "what a weak sound I'm getting." I adjust a few knobs and all is good again and the Fender love is there. If I plug in a Gibson after playing a fender I think "What a muddy (or something else) sound I'm getting" adjust a few knobs and I'm feeling the Gibson love.

To be fair to any of these guitars I think you need to test them with different amp settings etc.

I think testing them with different settings for each guitar would be wholly counter-productive and not demonstrate the guitars differences accurately. Taste is highly individual. What I would say is test the guitars with a flat eq (on a guitar amp that is treble and bass at zero, mids on full, for the closest you'll get to flat eq. See Duncan tonestack calculator) with no gain, reverb or anything else to cloud the sound of the guitars. Were testing guitars, not amps or effects, right?

Aside from that, I think we have conclusive proof that a Nevin signature model needs to be made available for purchase.
Nice strat there.

Well, its all personal taste of course.

My only thing about having one amp setting is that it is likley to favour one guitar type over the other. I can dial in an amp setting that will make a Gibson sound great and a Fender sound not so -- and the other way around.

In a blind test my preference for a gibson or a fender might be different depending on the amp setting used.

Yeah, what Nik said.

Plus, for me it's more the feel of a Fender that makes them my guitar of choice. A Strat just "balances right" and is very comfortable to play, add different pickup configurations and effects and you don't really NEED other body styles. The Tele is pretty comfortable too,(balances well but the body digs into my forearm sometimes). With Gibsons the SG is my fav but nothing feels as right as a Strat.

I must agree with this. The sound has to be a combination of the amp and guitar tweaked to "your sound".

Testing with identical amp settings may tell you the guitar's tendency, one vs. the other, but for the best (according to your ear) on each, adjust the amp.

Nevin - as has been stated, it's all personal taste. But my taste runs to the Strat... especially on your video. The LP sounds good, but the Strat, to my humble ears, has more "personality".

Well this is a guitar test, not a amp test. That kind of renders the point moot doesn't it?

So what pickups are we hearing? must say its a lively sounding guitar. Very impressed with it. Not much in the way of mids for a bridge pickup, which I find unusual. Their usually loaded in the mid department.

Nevin I liked the sound of your strumming. Do you actually hit the strings with the back of your fingernail? I ask because I've finally pretty much given up on picks and notice a big sound difference. I'd like the attack of the pick but the versatility of the fingers. (And not dropping picks  )
