+1 on the Ventures. Got them to sign an album of theirs (Ventures Lost in Space) when they were in town a couple years ago.

Late and haven't read the postings, The Ventures are rated most definitely among bands featuring solid body electric guitar and drum kit. Radio airplay for them is not what it was in the surf music era I would guess most solid body electric guitar players know The Ventures music.

Can. The band Can is amazing and not many youngsters know of them. They were blasting crazy great experimental in the '60's. These guys used to play 9hour + jam sessions daily. Talk about tight madness. CAN

I'm going to go with the Outfield as my first post... yeah sure their not virtuoso's but I really like the sound of the Play Deep record and the songs are fun. I attribute a lot of that to the fine engineering of Bill Whitman as well.

Another guy i like is the guy from School of Fish, Josh Clayton Felt. He went solo and i saw him open for Tori Amos... yes i've been to a Tori Amos show back in the 90s. This young guy just came on the stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar and sounded familiar but i couldn't figure out where i heard him. He was another that was not virtuoso but i was just enjoying his music. I ran out and bought his record and still love it. Just fun tunes that he wrote, produced and recorded himself.

Sadly he died a few years later at the age of 30 of cancer. RIP Mr. Felt, you're missed.

Gotta agree with you man, the outfield is classic

I've seen him four times (three with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and once solo) and that dude rocks...plus, he looks cool.

...and he's a nice guy in person, he'll sign stuff and talk gear, cars whatever as long as you want.

Too bad I left it too late to mention Gerry Rafferty who passed away today. He wrote some great songs both as a solo artist and with Stealers Wheel. With Stealers Wheel he had his first hit Stuck In The Middle With You and the flip side which I feel is probably his best song Star. His Baker Street will always be regarded as one of the greatest hits of the 70s era.He never got the full recognition he was due either and now we'll never hear any new gems from his brilliant mind.
