Now the thing is, ive been asked by a few peeps "what do you want for christmas" and the truth is ive no idea. Its not that i have everything, just that i cant think of things whereby someone can just go get me a pressie and wrap it up.

This being the case i thought . . . . seeing as i have a new 5 way switch that needs fitting to the cij 58 reissue strat sometime soon why not collect some money and change out the pups.

I havnt even had the MIA strat out the case since i got the japanese strat so i thought why not get some super/duper (probably means not cheap) pups to try as replacements for the texas specials which i like but hey . . . it is christmas  so . . .
any thoughts seeing as most if not all the money is given has anyone tried "tonerider pups" "old glory" 62/65 or 72 pups or for those with money to burn bare knuckle "mothers milk" or other pup sets?

. . . Al

I've the sultans set. Why not try the Slowhand or Apache sets? Irishtour maybe?

I really wouldn't let those names pigeonhole the pickups into 'a certain type of sound' their suitable for.
It's a bit of weird one mate. But despite the weak nature of my Sultans, they cover a massive variety of sounds well, even metal. The sheer amount of attack from em suits it well.
Mark of a good pickup, I completely recommend em and can't see the need to ever look elsewhere for replacement pickups, except maybe the Bill Lawrence Keystones. Miami Mike has them in a tele he recently bought, I was stunned by the complexity of underlying harmonic content to the notes through them. Very rich sounding, kind of like a SCN without as much mids and a better bass response. That could be down to Mike's masterfull eq'ing though. For the price of em, their a very safe bet. (the demo is in the tele section under his 'Show us your Highway1's thread')

I hate being asked what I want for Christmas. What I want no one will buy me.
I've consigned myself to the philosophy that anyone who asks either doesn't know me well enough or won't put the brainpower in to think about it.

If super duper pups are what you want, then go for a Set of Kinman pickups. The Traditional MK-III zero hum and the Blues Set are both top notch. Worth every penny and the best on the market IMO.

im running tone rider pure vintage pups in one of my strats, im happy with them, can get a good range of sound out of them, but they seem to be a bit "tinny" compared to texas specials but they are deacent never the less...

Tim at BareKnuckles is the bloke to deal with. Ring him up, tell him what you want, have it in a couple of days.
Best thing about em, they soften in sound in a few months then just keep improving. Made in Devon too, so you don't have to wait for international shipping or pay customs and import duty ontop of the VAT.
