U2 is the greatest band that ever existed. However, any band under the genre of rap, hip-hop, or modern pop.

U2 is about the only group that has made a living playing the same song but just in different keys with different lyrics.Their songwriting formula has no imagination. They were OK when they first appeared but got old and tiringly redundant after the second album.

Remember when we were all young enough to be jealous of U2's songwriting, because we couldn't come up with anything near as good?

Actually, there aren't any. Audiences put a given act up there, keep that act there while they are enthusiastic about them and promptly abandon said act when the enthusiasm begins to wane. Needless to say, the record (or should I say, "CD") companies immediately pick up on the sentiment and promptly follow suit. It's that simple.

Are you sure you don't mean "Nickleback"?

Well let say hi to those I have not spoken to in sometime.

Now back to this post, Niki we are usually on the same page on a lot of things but I have to totally disagree on this SRV issue. First you are basing his validety on the international Billboard chart? Nik you can ask any artist in the world where it is that they would feel they finally made it and the answer would be the US. I would believe you would know that the Beatles would not come here till they had a US #1. If you make it here then you made it, by going by what you are saying I guess Madonna, N'Sync and The Backstreet Boys would be some of the greatest artist of all time. Lets see 1983 and the blues are dead as a doorknob as hair bands are totally dominating music and Texas Flood is released and the guy single handedly raised the Blues as if they were Lazarus, won 6 Grammy awards and had 5 double platinum and 3 platinum albums. I cant believe you are even going to question his ability as a player. Sure maybe no Hendrix a different SRV but he was just as influenced by if not more Albert King then Hendrix, as well as Lonnie Mack, Beck and the greats before, that would be the same as saying no Buddy Guy no Hendrix as he would show up and tape his shows as well as no Freddy King no Clapton. What do charts have to do with anything as I would like to see how many times Beck charted outside of the Yardbirds but does that take away from him being maybe the greatest player on the planet.

For those who said the Beatles that is your right and opinion, but you would be laughed out of any serious music conversation going on in the world. Be it recorded feedback, Backwards guitars solos or vocals, Eastern musical influence in rock, oe even looping they did it first besides too many more to even list.

(And that's the only contribution I'm going to make to this particular thread...)

Cheers - C
