Oh to be young and dumb once again. Of course if you were not around when bands like The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, etc etc came out then I can understand that you may not be into them. But when you start dismissing them as dick weeds or whatever you are showing your lack of class and your empty cranial cavity. If it weren't for bands Like Led Zep and the like, you may not have even been born.

The Beatles can hardly be discounted as over rated as they sparked a whole new genre and wave of music like the world has never seen before or since.Even symphony orchestras have recorded their music and famed conductor/composer Leonard Bernstien hailed them as modern day Mozarts-that's hardly accolades you would give someone unless they were truly great.I'll take the judgement of these musical giants like Bernstien, Fieldler et al before I'd take the word of someone who wasn't even a thought when the Beatles exploded on the scene.

I believe that in the past few years the Stones have been vastly over rated,sure they were great-with "were" being the operative word but all they have going for them now is bragging rights to be the oldest gigging rock band alive today.I used to be a staunch Stones fan up until Brian was set adrift and had every one of their albums up until then but after he died I only bought Goats Head Soup and Sticky Fingers.They ain't what they used to be.

My vote for the most overrated group? KISS.

Basic 3 chord, 4/4 tempo rock. A, E, D... C, Bb, F... G, C, D... etc...etc...etc... Come on guys, can you switch keys? Could you at least throw an F#m7th in there somewhere?

KISS proved that if you put on a theatrical stage show, with crazy stage antics, that it would somehow make up for the lack of musical skill.

I kind of liked the tat and pin thing but I figured out it was unfair in a certain way so I removed it. It had nothing to do with anyones opinion except mine. When you insult the teachers that gave me a life of music and earning then I get just a tad hacked off. I tend to want to stand up for them. It doesn't really matter in the long run. Everyone has opinions. Some aren't very well thought out.

i like several band/musicians and don't about hypes. important is for me: i like their music or not.

Hmmm depends how you look at it however. Musical skills are just one part of what makes a successful performance. Some groups are just natural showmen and are able to put on a fantastic show with limited musical talent compared to others, does that make what they do any less valid? In my opinion no. High levels of musicianship =/= a good song or show, although it obviously does help.

There is a reason some of the most successful songs of all time follow a very similar, simple chord progression.



Anyway myself I can't stand to listen to most bands like The Beatles, The Who, SRV, Clapton etc. That being said I also recognise the influence they have had on the players and bands that I do listen to so it would be short sighted of me to dismiss them as overrated purely because I don't particularly enjoy their music.

Why is it that Clapton gets recognition for everything? If it wasent for Ginger Bakers hard hitting drums and Jack Bruce's leathery blues howl, Cream would have been nothing. Yes he made rocks greatest love song Layla, but there were like five guitar parts recorded and Duane Allman made that track really, he made the riff, added the slide. Besides Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, and Layla, honestly how many stand out incredible tunes did he make: 0. He covered everyone else's stuff, though he did make it his own. I respect him deeply and believe he changed rock in a little way, but honestly on a list of greatest artists of all time, he doesnt make it on the top 50 by any means. Great guitar player, not the greatest, groundbreaking, but no Earth shattering, a changer, but not a game changer.

The Rolling Stones, alot here, yes they are one of the most influential groups of all time, but really they were following a trend of Black R&B with an American Rockabilly speed. People say, oh they were edgier than the Beatles, The Beatles were from the gritty streets and taverns of Liverpool, The Rolling Stones were from the suburbs. Definatley one of the greatest rock artists of all time, definatley one of the greatest artists of all time period, but there's been better.

Van Halen, the greatest thing of the late 70s, but why? Eddie Van Halen is an excellent guitarist, David Lee Roth is an excellent singer, but really what was unique? The larger than life sex drugs and rock and roll, Zeppelin did that, the overdriven crazy guitar parts, Hendrix did that(though I admit Van Halen was prolly the best guitarist of that decade). The scale they did it on? Kiss tops that even today. I mean think about it, you can say they did it better than anyone else, that they were the complete package, and in many ways your right, but I can name five other bands just as good, if not better than them, that were around when they were at their biggest.

Shall I continue onto the 90s and 00s, or can you take it from here.
