Nothing's wrong with "Southern Rock", it just isn't "Country Music". Back when I was growing up Country didn't sound like Southern Rock and vice versa. It was a distinct readily identifiable musical critter. I just think it's funny that Country is getting less 'country' and more 'mainstream pop' all the time.

Nothing wrong with there being 2 country music awards shows. I mean how many pathetic cRap music awards shows are there each year and how many awards shows for the unbearable music put out by the Pop music industry. I find country music easier to listen to than rap or pop so if they can support having 2 different awards shows then more power to em.

I find it ironic that otherwise independently-thinking people allow some metrosexual droid within the industry to arbitrarily label the music that many people happen to enjoy.

If Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, or Brooks & Dunn do not please and entertain, turn the knob.

It's as simple as that.

When did you grow up?
I "grew up" through the 50s,60s and early 70s....I can understand what you're saying with the "crying in your beer" country, but some of the country stars back then like Waylon Jennings came from R&R in the '50s and weren't too far removed from Southern Rock, even Hank Jr. could be called Southern Rock.
The two genres are closely related,R&R spun off from R&B and country and Southern Rock came out of blues and country and R&R.
I grew up in Nashville and have been exposed to country musicians all my life, back in the '60s everyone I knew was very well versed in R&R...and could play the hell out of it.

I don't think there's less original country music, It's just harder to find among all the new varieties of stuff. There are still a lot of Bill Monroe fans and others who play great "Old Timeing" music. But it's not what the record companies and radio stations push. I't out there, just harder to find.

It's all good.
