okay, so i'm saving my money to buy an american deluxe strat ash. (will be a huge improvement over my squier  ) i was thinking that once i get it, i might change out the pickups to some custom shop reissue 69's.

1. should i do this?

2. i've never changed out pups and i don't know much about it. after reading up on the subject, will it be easy to do?

thanks for your thoughts.

With an ash body the pickups she comes with should sound fine.A lot of people buy into the idea that you swap out the pups as soon as you get a guitar.I've seen loads of people advise others to swap out the pups of an MIM Strat or a Squier as soon as they get them 99% of the time it's just an unecessary waste of money.

your right, that will be a big leap from the squier 8)

see what the pick ups that come with it are like, you might find that there better.

If you want a thin sound, 69's are great.

A good clean funk pickup.

I'd give the guitar you're saving up for every possible chance to put a smile on your face before thinking of pup changes, in saying that I have thought about tinkering a little under the scratchplate, but, everytime I plug it in hell even unplugged and give it a good old thrashing, there's just something so satisfying about it, stock AM strat nuthin better  enjoy your new strat to the limit 8)

i thought about doing that too, but i think i'll just buy a standard strat or a hwy 1 sometime in the future to do the mod to. thanks guys, i'll probably leave the n3 pups on there. i'm sure i'll love em.

I agree.

Not to be mean, but I just never understand the idea of saving up for the "dream guitar" and then planning to change it before you even get it. Sounds to me like you're buying the wrong guitar. Putting the pickups you want in the Squier would be a lot cheaper. 8)

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Give the OEM pickups a chance, millions of players swear by them.

Ditto on giving the stock pups a chance - - they are pretty nice!

i've given some thought of changing the pups on my MM strat, but i reconsidered because it gave off the sound i preferred. It all depends on you and the sound you want to achieve. As for the process of changing, to me it didn't seem to easy, with the wiring and stuff. But i don't have the skill set needed so...
