My youngest daughter phoned a while ago distraught over tha fact that one of her best friends and his girlfriend had been struck by a driver drunk and wrecked on crack.As luck should have it she wasn't on ambulance duty last night but the guy who was is a close friend to the guy that was hit and didn't recoginize him as he'd been dragged facedown for quite a distance.They found the vehicle by looking at a security video from a nearby house and what's even more disturbing was that they were there for over an hour and several cars drove around them even though she was barely conscious enough to raise her arm to try and wave them down. They have induced comas in both of them and had to stabilize them before they could be airlifted to St. John's from Labrador.He has a fractured skull,almost every rib broken,compound fractures in both legs and arms and extensive internal injuries and his prognosis is very grim.She has 2 fractured legs and a fractured arm and massive internal injuries also.The 2 that struck them went home and went to bed knowing that they hit someone but were too stoned on crack to care, the driver is well know to police in the area as being a trouble maker and she already has the reputation of being the town crack 'ho.Please take the time to pray for Shane's and her recovery as they need more than a medical miracle right now.Thanks.

Thanks for the outpouring of kindness folks,they certainly need it.Here's a bit of an update.My oldest daughter who is the town enforcement officer wasn't on call last night either as luck should have it as she knew both of them too.St. John's was too fogged in for them to be airlifted there so they flew them to Montreal-it's just as well as they have the absolute best of Trauma centres.Of course the word has gone around the closeknit town already and it looks like the crackheads will be run out of town as both of them were on thin ice already.I dare say the people who passed them by as they lay there in pools of their own blood are feeling pretty sheepish now because it was the type of town where every either knew everyone else or knew their business.BTW the air temperature was well below zero so if people rationalized that they were only drunk they still could have frozen to death if even that was the case.
