Looks like two heads are better than one.
If they are really amp heads, or boxes with knobs.

Ive read that it is pretty common with endorsement deals. Musicians get paid to use one brands gear on stage. They can be endorsed by Behringer or something, and have 100 stacks on stage, unplugged, and just be running a 1x12 behind the stacks into the mixer.

Did exactly that, Carlsbro Evo 50Top onstage. JCM800 mic'd up on the left wing out of sight.
Bloody stupid time.

Do you really think a multimillionaire like say Billy Gibbons, is going to risk his hearing. By having a stack of amps at full tilt onstage. Then theres the bass amps, monitors and the acoustics off the kit. When they can have a small amp offstage and mic' it or line it to the PA. That everything has to go through when you're playing to a 30k strong crowd. Most won't even have effects onstage with em, maybe a wah.

Look at Jeff Beck, gone are the JTM45's. Uses a couple of Pro Juniors last I saw. You can bet one of them is nothing more than a backup.

You aint dealing with pub gig playing guitarists. It's a very different world.

I think it's selling out because it's phony, Relying on illusions to captivate the audience (not to mention the paycheck the poser gets for putting a bunch of fake amps on stage) If my memory is correct, I don't recall ever seeing Hendrix with more than two full stacks on stage ever, and I'd bet they were both functioning stacks. It's about the whole music industry these days and the fakeness of it. In my opinion, when you have to rely on props to get your point across, Your a Poser. 8)

Well thats invalidated every guitarist since 1976.

Theres a difference between professionalism and stupidity. If you don't think stage show matters equally as much as performance, you've never performed. The two are mutually inclusive, you can't have one without the other.

No, I have performed and never felt the need to put fake gear on the stage. I realize that the stage show is important. Look at The Wall a lot of props, No fake amps. Lighting, Backdrops, its all fine. Fake amps just for the sake of having them on the stage no good, And it's worse if you are getting paid to do it. Maybe the masses are into that kind of presentation, But not me, Like I said, when I go see a show, I don't do arenas, I do clubs. 8)

I don't think many of us should be surprised by this. I'm not.

it's show-biz...give the customer what he wants. As long as it isn't lip-synched and/or pre-recorded like Milli Vanili or some of these other pre-packaged Stuporstars, its just "show".

"Relying on illusions to captivate the audience"... Well it is entertainment... Isn't it?

Sorry Marvin, I just don't see your point

The point I was trying to make was that if I want Illusions, I'll go to a movie or a magic show. When I go to see a band I want to hear the music performed live, Different than the recorded album (or CD) I've seen plenty of bands these days that do not use fake amps, and plenty that do, but my preference is to go see a band for the music, not to see how many amps it appears that they have onstage. I realize I am most likely in a minority these days, but I don't care if I even see the performers amp onstage. The point I am making is like someone else said, Give the people what they want, Yeah, and before you know it you are giving the people what they want so you increase ticket sales not to play your music. Why Be Fake and ruin your credibility? Next thing you know it will be OK to play live with pre recorded bits and auto tune mikes. It's accepted in most pop music genres that's why my tastes do not run in that direction. Fake Is Fake. if someone likes it, Let them buy a ticket, I'm Not buying it. 8)

Wonder if the likes of Maiden, Floyd, the stones and a million 70's prog rock bands could possibly agree with that assessment.

They don't have to. It's My Opinion thats all. BTW, I never saw Frank Zappa in front of a wall of fake amps, I respect that more than all the other bands put together. 8) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf8TM4CI ... re=related

That reminds me of a wanker I used to be in a band with years ago,he insisted in bringing along an empty 4-12 cab to put beside his Traynor Custom 2-12 because "it looked cool" while i was just using and old Traynor Mk. III combo and although it didn't look cool it sounded very cool.
