On Dec. 15 Bonham's Auction House in London is auctioning off an Epiphone FT79 that was Jimi's favourite guitar and that he kept longer than any other.Kathy Etchingham(Jimi's long time girlfriend) said that this particular guitar went everywhere he did and that he wrote a great deal of his songs on this guitar even his legendary cover of Dylan's All Along The Watchtower. She said that he'd sit in their tiled bathroom with it for long periods because he loved the sounds reflecting back from the tiles in the windowless room. The guitar is expected to fetch over $250,000. If I could spare that kind of money I'd be on a plane for London right away. Some may think that people who buy these iconic relics are nuts but I can understand it completely if someone has the money and is a commited fanatic of an artist.Whereas Jimi and John Lennon and George Harrison are my personal heros and mentors if I had the money I'd spend many thousands collecting guitars they owned just to be able to hold something that loved and created their beautiful music on,to have that kind of personal connection would be an almost religious experience. When in Miami in May I stood next to a picture that John Lennon had drawn and to touch the frame of something that he created was just an electrifying experience.I know that a lot wouldn't understand where I'm coming from but I know also that some will.I know for sure that Paul Allen knows where I'm coming from.

After seeing the prices that some of his wrecked and abused Strats have commanded I believe it will go for well over $100,000 in fact I'd be willing to bet a year's supply of air guitar picks and strings.
