One that gets overlooked a lot, but has some really good interviews and articles is Downbeat...

Used to get Vintage Guitar. Loved it, but I have no time for mags anymore. I let my Guitar Player and Blues Revue subscriptions run out, too. Right now I get EQ magazine as I'm more into recording these days.

Steve, Tape Op is a free subscription for US addresses.

You probably are aware of SOS (sound on sound) too?

Thanks, Mike. I'd forgotten all about Tape Op . I'll have to try it again. I love SOS, but subscriptions are a tad pricey (and all the gear prices are in pounds!!). I still pick up an issue or two each year along with the occasional Mix.

I don't seem to be getting much better at this stuff, though.

Vintage guitar. I love that magazine because I am a gear head----I do know that playing comes first, but I am so tired of tabs and " whoa did you see how fast he played those arpeggios", or " look how far that dude can bend". You know, I don't even use tabs. I play by ear. If I wanna learn a tune I can just listen to it and work it out in my head. I read guitar magazine because I want to learn about GUITARS, not SONGS, even though it is important. Now how about that Guitar Aficianado mag----------------------TOTAL CRAP!!!!!!! Its more about the luxary life, not instruments and playing.
