jerry cantrell = wah master

people will always have a bias towards hendrix and clapton because they are considered "innovative" and "the best"..... but cantrell never has and unfortunately probably never will get the credit he deserves for his "wah mastery" or his playing in general.... IMO

also, i like dunlop... havnt tried vox and have no intention of spending insane $$$ on vintage pedals for a minor, almost unnoticeable, difference

If you call half of what you paid for your fanboy wah a insane amount of money for a better sounding time proved unit.

I've got an old Thomas Organ Cry Baby.

It's still working great.

The only bad thing I've heard about the new Dunlops is their reliability may not be the greatest.

my wah cost between $80-$100 i believe.... $200 for a vintage wah with miniscule differences in tone is unreasonable to me, sorry my gear isnt good enough for you

People go on and on about fasels and their importance in the circuit. In all honesty I can't buy into a lot of that mythology. Theres much much more to a wah than it's fasel. I've both trashcan and halo fasel'd wahs. If theres any difference the trashcan is slightly fuller sounding.

As with the components of many vintage effects, Fasels are just cheap parts that have degraded in ways which are currently regarded as pleasing... so there's not much appeal to a brand new one, I'd have to agree.

Ah, yes, just like Vintage Guitars. The '50s and '60s Strats have degraded in ways which are regarded as pleasing: cracked and faded finishes, discolored and shrunken pickguards, other yellowed plastic parts, rust, etc, etc.

Yes, we could put it this way:

one man's pleasing degradation is another man's manufacturing defect.

And they say the quality in the '50s and '60s was so good.
That always makes me laugh.

When you read stories of early small companies, JMI, Watkins, Burn's/Baldwin and such. It becomes apparent that they did put a lot of thought into their designs. They planned to make a quality unique product. Take the watkins rapier, by no means the best guitar made by the best luthiers in the business. Not just a strat copy though by any means. Exactly the same could be said of Burns. Good guitars, well designed. Or the Vox AC30 (a amp I personaly despise) how did they get that gain with absolutely no negative feedback on the preamp? Trust me, it aint all power valve breakup on them things.
Well thought out design, not always executed to the most exacting standards. Vox in particular, their early amps were a joke. Catching fire and blowing up, entirely through being poorly made. Unlike todays manufacture that seems to be the exact opposite. Poor design built well.

The closest thing I have heard to the original Vox Clyde McCoy is the Teese RMC Picture Wah and I've also heard similar praise heaped on the Fulltone Wah-although I haven't heard one of the myself. Both these wahs go for about $200-$250,not too bad considering you'd pay over $900 these days for an opriginal Vox.
