So here's my question guys. I have never been one to use too many pedals, but I have been looking at delays lately. The main thing it will be used for would be short single repeat slapback type delay. I know MXR Carbon Copy is a good pedal, and pretty popular. Does anyone else have a suggestion of something equal to or better than the carbon copy? Or should I just spring for the Carbon Copy? I'm not too much worried about the price, however I'd prefer it to be something I can go demo at a music shop cuz I'm not a big fan of ordering any kind of music equipment online without being able to hear it in person first.

Have you considered making an effect?

I am not affiliated with BYOC. However, I do like their stuff, it's all quality parts and true bypass. I too do not use a lot of effects. In fact, none for the past several months not even reverb. But when I do use one or two, a pedal with true bypas is essential in getting a solid sound.

My 5e3 is very sensitive to pedals and pick attack, when I use one that is not true bypass I can hear a big difference. It's like listening to an MP3 in 64Kps vs CD quality.

Hi Tim: if a smallish unit for straightforward analog delay is your requirement then I don't see how you can do better than the Carbon Copy.

Or if you want something that covers all the delay bases then I usually suggest the Boss DD-20, which after much research was the one I plumped for and has been giving me excellent service ever since. A little more expensive than Boss's smaller pedals but not much - and it does just about anything you could ask of a modern delay unit. All the different effects, a simple 23 second looper, memory settings, tap tempo - yadda yadda. Best bang for the buck, far as I can tell.

On the other hand, in another current thread in the Lounge here Forum-user TexasGuitarSlinger has been trying one out and seems not completely enthusiastic about it. So there is no one solution for everyone.

Strokes for folks.

Good luck - C

+1 BYOC http://www.buildyourownclone.com/analogdelay.html

It may be a bit more than you're looking for.

No luv for Electro-Harmonix Memory Man?
Is a delay a good substitute for a reverb?
Pros / cons of digital vs analog?

I bought a couple of byoc pedals from here, axeandyoushallreceive.com, great service, seems to be pedal heaven.
Byoc analog delay is on my shopping list.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It however looks like I'ma go with the Carbon Copy. Seems to pretty much be the industry standard right now, and readily available.

The Electro Harmonix Cathedral is a multi delay type pedal that gives you very realistic delays and the price isn't real steep either.I had their first Memory Man Deluxe and it was an amazing pedal as are most of their products.

I already have an RP50 and I have had an RP100 in the past, and I've never really been impressed with DigiTech's reverbs or delays. Thanks for the suggestion though.

ive never been impressed with DigiTech's stuff period.
i have a GSP 21 legend just setting here collecting dust.
has been since the first week i bought it.
hey tim grab that Carbon Copy asap. its a great pedal.
it does the slapback your looking for and so much more.
i have 2 delay pedals on my board. i bought the carbon for its analog
slapback. ive since moved my OCD and the Carbon Copy and building a
new board based around them to run through my blues jr.
these two pedals were made for eachother i swear it.

see if you can find a marshall echohead , a great little unit which covers a lot of sounds like digital , anolog , tape , reverse , to name a few , you can also plug in a tap tempo switch , i'm like you , i don't use a lot of effects , perhaps a bit of chorus now and then but the marshall echohead rocks
