Eric Clapton Back to Using Les Pauls Again?

Here is a recent youtube of Clapton playing what appear to be the "Beano" Les Paul reissue.

How did Gibson pull this off? Wasn't the infamous Beano Les Paul stolen back in the 60s? How did they get the spec to use as a template for this reissue? :?:

I've heard that this Clapton sig Les Paul was to suppose to be a replica of the Les Paul Clapton used during his days with the John Mayall Bluesbreakers, the Beano Les Paul, named after the comic book Clapton as reading on the album cover.
