How y'all doin?

I have been playing for a good while now and I get this problem from time to time. At this moment it seems to be worse than usual. The calluses on my fingers are hard/slick enough that when I bend to a note the string often slips out from under my fingers. Results in a loud unwanted sound in the middle of my pain face I get when playing something soulful. Very, very uncool. I've tried filing or sanding my calus, used hand lotion, changed my strings etc.. Anyone else have or had this problem? Suggestions?

I have a small grove in my calus' where a string usually is positioned under my fingers. Unless I am applying a fair amount of pressure to the string I don't really feel it so I cant catch it slipping.

I'm using 9's at this time. I also use 10's and this still happens with those but less frequently.

Thanks for reading everyone.

Laissez les bon temps roules!

ok when changing from 10's to 9's or 9's to 10's are you setting up the guitar to play that size set?
secondly, how are your saddles set up?
are they set even action wise? are they set up to match the radi of the neck? you just dont suddenly start experiencing this problem w/o something causing it. there was a change in something you either dont realize or something you forgot about.

I think that pretty much has happened to everyone at one time or another. I'm not so sure filing your callouses or lotion is much of an answer. I would say, just stop doing that. It's a technique thing. When you're practicing, practice not allowing that to happen. Practice positioning your fingers so it doesn't happen. That would be my advice.

Welcome!

You want the callouses, leave them alone.

This phenomenon happens rather regularly, especially to those who use a slick maple fingerboard. It is easily remedied by raising your guitar's action.

As Shredd said.. Technique is the answer. When that happens to me, I find that I have "Rolled" my finger a bit to much. or I "let off" on the pressure. If this isn't the answer, Martians suggestion will help.
