Most of the time I use the neck pickup and, to a lesser extent, the middle pickup. I'm not much of a 'tweener tone guy anymore. I save the bridge for surf guitar!

Mostly the neck for a blues sound.
Middle in combination with bridge for a quack.
Middle exclusively for tuning.
Neck for a variety of sounds.

I never understood this either. On Teles I have always preferred the sound of the neck pup and on Strats either the neck or one back from the neck setting. Just sounds more raw and bluesy to me.

What I really don't understand is the lack of people using the middle pickup alone. It's really a work of art. Loads of definition, no harshness of attack like the bridge pickup. Way more strident than the traditionaly weak mid scooped sound of a strat neck pickup. A perfect balance without any of the weaknesses of the bridge/neck combination of say a telecaster or series1.

Paul Simon (absolutely no slouch on guitar) uses it pretty much exclusively. To the point that his main strat only has a middle pickup.

Very difficult to have quack with diminished mids. Never heard a neck pickup that quacks, thats the domain of the bridge pickup.

I don't use bridge that much.

My favs (neck, mid and either pos 2 or 4 with bottom tone control on 10 and top on 3 for a jazzy feel).

Sorry Nick might have been a bit too cryptic. I use the bridge mid combo most often thus the "quack" comment. However I do use the bridge pup on leads in the band just to cut thru the mix. I just roll off the treble to about 7 or 8 so I don't get the fingernail on the chalkboard effect on auditory nerves. The neck pup is the domain of my more bluesy and jazzy moments. I rarely use the neck mid combo or the middle alone.

No need to apologize mate, sorry I took your message the wrong way. I sincerely thought you were responding to my previous statement. Must be them rolling eyes that always seem to look up.

Sorry once again mate.

On my Tele Custom RI I mostly have it in the middle position for rhythm and cut to the bridge alone when soloing.

The neck pick-up never really gets used in my band, just clean when I'm widdling in the house. Nice and jazzy hum.

I use all my pickups, it just depends on what I am playing.

I agree. I use the middle pickup for rhythms in songs where I just want to blend with the keys. Which is probably more than half the set. Another good thing about the middle pickup is that when using a wah pedal, you don't get too big of a low end woof in the heal position as you would get with a neck pickup, and it won't peel your face off like using a bridge pickup in the toe position.

Neck and middle mostly on my Strat depending whether or not I'm using my old Fender Fuzz Wah, then the bridge pup is almost mandatory. It's a pretty heavy sounding pedal. On my Humbucker equipped guitars, I'm all over the place.

I use all pup positions but mainly the bridge, I like a hard sound.
