Thanks Martian! Guess I'm spending more time tweaking than playing these days!

But this was more a problem than a tweak, my Strat shouldn't sound like that with just a change of strings. Gotta pay attention next time, springs were replaced the same time the bridge was...

You're welcome!

Guitar wise, you sound like you're sliding into my world of constant reasoning, constant probing and constant experimenting with stuff in a never ending search for better and better. Be careful or it will become an obsession! Truth be told, I got on this jag back in the late '60s and never stopped. Keep on keeping on!!

...On both Strats I was using Fender Super Bullets 10-52. What I noticed was that the bullet ends on the Dlx are deep in the block but on the vintage steel block they're flush....Not sure if anyone experienced this before but for some reason these Super Bullets did not work on the vintage block but sound great with the newer Dlx block...

The real vintage blocks, Fender originals, and blocks like the Callaham won't accept the Bullet ends, the ends stick way out of the block.

LMAO!!! Well it took me 25 years to start messing with guitars, never even bothered to replace pickups in the past. I was quite happy with playing whatever, as long as it sounded good the first time I picked it up...

Exactly! I wish Fender mentioned something about that, would've saved me all these headaches. And they don't fit my hardtail Strat either.

Here's what their site says about these strings:

http://www.fender.com/themes/features/images/strings/pdfs/SuperBUllets.pdf

Quote:
Fender® Super Bullets® are one of the world’s
most-popular sets of strings and for good reason.
The German-made bullet end fits precisely into
Fender® tremolo blocks, enhancing sustain and stability.
That means you get more for your money with Super
Bullets®: they stay in tune better and they resonate more.
By the way, the bullet end isn’t just for trem users;
it also enhances sustain and stability on guitars with
string-through-body type bridge designs.

I even called their support and was told these strings work with all Fender tremolo.
