Lots of rockin’ tunes here. Hot stuff, Rollie. I’m still dancing, although it’s more like a slow waltz now.

I enjoyed Chantel, Fergyuk.

Flashback 1981:
Winnipeg’s First Lady Of Rock and Roll - Diane Heatherington. Diane lived in the neighbourhood I now live in, and from the late 60s, she was a fixture both in the pubs and the station that I worked in. Bill Wallace of the Guess Who played in her first band. She famously shamed Led Zeppelin into playing a festival that they wimped out on because of a poor weather clause. She had her own TV series, and the Guess Who’s “Bye Bye Babe” was recorded as a tribute to Dianne because of her move to Toronto where she formed a new band seen here doing the Beatles. Sadly, ovarian cancer took her in 1996 at the age of 48.

The LP sits on the shelf.

FSB, Diane has a very good voice reminiscent of Bonnie Tyler.

Here's Frumpy with Inga Rumpf

Thanks, for that, Fergyuk. Dianne also sang pop and jazz which was also pretty big here at the time being that NORAD had Canadian and American musicians (a lot of big band pros some of whom joined up like a retreat to brush up on skills) stationed here.

I don’t know why, but I recall Frumpy or at least the name. Must be my dinghy genes. I enjoyed that performance. A perfect addition. :D

I just caught that Peter Lawford introduced her as the late Marilyn. Oh boy.

Dum Dum Girls rocked. Good observation on the “late” Marilyn Monroe, Rollie. Pretty mysterious overall, huh?

Mrs. FSB has a girlfriend that sounds exactly like Marilyn when she pranked me singing the song for my birthday. An amazing cover of the video. Thanks, bro’. :D

A little Fender, a little drums, a little dancin’, and a lot of Sass Jordan.

Ann-Margaret. There’s only one, and she’s a doozey. Thanks, SBLS.

The year was 1970. The Festival Express Train stopped for concerts in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Calgary.

This tells of the historical rock tour:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_Express

As some here know, on July 1/70 Janis Joplin came to our studios for an interview. I got to know a little of the real Janis off and on camera. I sensed a deep loneliness even amongst those who surrounded her. It was like there were two Joplins. Janis Lyn and Pearl. She was the professional appearing happy to be doing whatever she had on the agenda, but I felt there was a bit of an act that came with the territory. She was not one to disappoint. After asking me for a hug, she made her way to the stadium behind our station. I heard that a bottle of bourbon often was just off stage. Without seeing it, that story is heresay. Almost a month to the day of her Winnipeg concert she made this appearance with Dick Cavett (August 3/70):

Oct. 4/70 (app. 3 months from meeting her) Pearl died of a heroin overdose. 3 months earlier I had been told without discussion by someone close to Janis that it would be a miracle if she were to live out the year. That was more information than I needed to hear under the circumstances, and I didn’t care for the person who freely offered and whispered that information while I was running the camera. I was 22. You can imagine my feelings at the OD announcement. Sad. I liked the real Janis./Pearl.

Thank you for sharing the video and amazing story of meeting the real Janis/Pearl. It must have been wonderful, at the time, but sad now because you got to know her. You had an amazing career. Being able to meet, work with and socialize some very interesting people. I believe that people leave us when they are supposed to but sometimes it just doesn't seem right. But, who am I to say?
