I picked one up the other day, and I still can't believe how good it sounds. I know it seems a bit crazy to be excited about a Squier Bullet. But I like the neck pickup a lot. The bridge pickup is pretty bright, but that's a good thing for Reggae music. And the combo between the two is pretty smooth as well. If you lower them closer to the body, they stay nice and clean in the clean channel.

I modded mine already.

I put an early nineties Hamer neck on it before ever even plugging it in. It's one of my favorite necks. It's shaped much like an Ibanez wizard. Grover tuners. Real low action.

When it came time to choose some Dimarzio pickups for it, I just couldn't do it. I remember someone on here being adamant about giving pickups a chance before just ripping them out right away. And I'm glad I did, because these sound just as good, and in my opinion the neck pickup ranks up there with the best of what I own. Oddly enough it sounds like a Dimarzio Steve's Special bridge pickup, and appears to have more flavor. More single coil sounding. There's a sparkle to them.

Lightweight Basswood body, great tones. Call me crazy, but this is an inspiring sound. Great job by Squier. I only wish they did this in a higher end model. The sound is way better than my CV 60's. If it had something more along the lines of a CV neck and hardware, I would have left the whole thing stock and been very happy with it.

If you're in a store and see one, play around with it a little. The tones will surprise you. Especially for a $99 guitar.

thanks for the info Shredd6, I have real beat-up white strat hidden in the corner at the pawn shop, the previous owner and his bandmates carved their names all over it then colored most of it in blue magic marker. missing back plate and whammy bar but for an even hundo, when I have it, I'll take that strat home.

It's a trip, because I keep telling myself that I'm delirious. That eventually I'll want to swap the pickups. I keep A/Bing them with other guitars, but the more I do it, the more impressed I am with them considering the other guitars I'm A/Bing them with. It totally has me re-thinking my Ibanez/ Dimarzio setups. Tonight I'm going to A/B the guitar with what I consider to be my favorite guitar sounds and again see how it measures up.

My thoughts so far are, this sound has Jack White written all over it. It has an uncanny flavor to it that makes you just want to wail on it for days.

I ran into an old friend of mine at GC today. He's a tech there. Very intelligent guitar player and great tech. He's telling me this story about how he picked up "just a cheap Squier" and had to have it, loved the sound, so he bought it.

So I said, " let me guess, a Bullet HH". He was like " YEA!! How did you know? It just has this sound! It's crazy."

We had a good laugh out of it.

Anyway.. After going through my guitars and doing a comparison. I'm not going to crown it over my favorite DiMarzio pickups. I even tried out a Blacktop Tele and Strat today, and I wouldn't say they sound better than the Blacktop Tele either. But I will say, they come dangerously close to the Blacktop Strat. So there you have it. I think Squier did a great job with their Bullet HH. There are going to be a lot of happy kids this Christmas as a result.

Now I want a Blacktop Tele.. That thing was freaking smooth. 8)

Funny how so many of us move in similar paths.

I'm completely rebuilding 2 strats.

(1) A J.B. Player neck will get the bullet body, Carvin pups, SSH with a coil splitter.
(2) A Standard Body will get the bullet neck, it is a bit thinner than my 56 NOS aas well as my 04 MIM but after a fret dressing, leveling and polish and some refinishing it will be sweet.

The left over hardware will be for another project
I was about to order a neck but a 6 week wait and $150 was no contest for the $99 bullet.
