So today I just got hired to work at a local music shop downtown of good ole' Spartanburg. I been a regular for almost three years now and I know everyone very well, and the owner (who will probably be the best boss to ever have) asked if I would like to start working for him this spring.

I'm so excited! I couldn't think of a better place to work at... I'll start learning the ropes sometime in the winter break.

Best of all, they are licensed dealers of my favorite brand

Cool! I've been working at a local guitar store since last summer. It's lots of fun and we carry my favorite brand too. :D You'll get to hang with lots of cool people and you won't be able to help learning a thing or two.

Ya'll are probably right about where my paycheck will be going too... after all they do offer employee discount. 8)

I think being able to tinker around on guitars all day would really improve my playing as the time goes by. Its a major plus

Speaking of getting new gear, what would be a better idea? A blacktop tele, or a Squier CV 60's Tele custom along with getting a loop pedal? I'm having trouble deciding, and I'm wanting to take a beater to college. I know a loop pedal is one of the best ways to improve too. The Teles are comepletely different, but I like the sound of both of them.

I'd go for the Squier Tele.

That Tele too is a beauty. I really think lately Squier instruments have been really stepping up their game. 8)

I don't really know that you'll have as much time to tinker as you think. I thought I'd be able to get some playing in, but as long as I'm on the clock I don't really get a chance to. There's customers to help, inventory to receive and stuff to clean. I really don't get a chance to play anything until after my work day is over and I'm waiting for a ride or something. And even then it's not nearly as productive as focused, at home practice.

What I really like to do though is to work on the guitars that need repairs. I mainly do the basic things like restring them and clean them, but sometimes if our tech is slammed for time I get to try my hand at things like setting the action and intonation. That to me is the second most fun thing to actually playing them. :)

That is really cool man. I am rather nervous to set my own action and check my intonation. I just take it in.

It's not so bad when you have the right tools. We have everything you need to fix a multitude of problems at the store, but I don't really have anything like it at home. And we have a nice rack mount tuner we use to set intonation at the store, as opposed to my cheapo ones at home. The right tools made everything a lot less scary. :)

Sweet because all I have to adjust my bridge an lower my action is an allen type of wrench. It isn't even a wrench it is just a metal stick that is a precision screw driver.
