I seriously hate my computer now. I ended up with a major virus a while back, and I can't get rid of it even with an antivirus.

My problem is that I can't do any searches on Google or Yahoo without being redirected to something completely off the wall. It's the most frustrating thing to try to do a search. I want to bash this thing with a hammer!!

I'm trying to find out what to do with a Hum-sing-sing situation. Do I use 500k or 250k pots. I'm sure there are answers for it all over the internet. But when I do searches I get "TAZINGA" or "SEARS" or HEALTH VIDEO" etc.. It's driving me nuts!

So if someone could be so kind as to fill me in with this, I would be so grateful. It's the only guitar I have that has this configuration. I have a Dimarzio humbucker and two single coil pickups. Which pot values are best to use in this case? Right now, the guitar is wired with only the humbucker hooked up. straight to a 500k volume pot, then to the tone.

go to the top of the this boad, suuport/tech specs/wireing diagrams...
should find something there.

if you run google/yahoo search tool bars at the top of your browser, uninstall those things.
Do a system restore back to before you think the virus hit.
Doesnt sound like a virus to me so much as it is probably a little program that
hijacks your search tools.

Hey, thanks Ed, I will try the system restore thing.

I'm not really looking for a wiring diagram, I'm just kind of wanting some advice on the pot values. If the general rule is 250k for single coil- 500k for humbucker. Then what's the advice for Hum-sing-sing?

You know, I even get redirected when I do a forum search, so I don't have that luxury either at the moment.

500K Shred.

You may want to lower the resistance though, so buy a 330K too when you get the 500k. Try both.

What browser are you using? Have you tried it with another browser? If not download Chrome from Google

http://www.google.com/chrome

Install it and see if you're still having issues doing a search. If it's still happening then it's not the toolbar in your browser, could be malware or your local dns settings got screwed up, probably by malware or virus... try another browser first and let us know.

If you don't have any virus/malware protection better get some!

Wow I never thought I would get to bring my work home and on the forum.. Lol cool the problem you have is called a hijacked browser... Anytime you do a google search your host file on your computer redirects you to a different page the best way to get rid of these are programs like spybot, malwarebites, and avast all free programs if you can find the host file you can clear the entries yourself but my advice would be use another computer to download spybot and malwarebites and then install and run those on ure computer but if you dont feel comfortable doing this take it to a computer shop and tell them you have a hijacked browser and you want it cleaned shouldnt take no more than two hrs and the average price is $35-$45 an hour hopethis helps

Thanks for all of the help guys. I'll try anything at this point. Maybe later tonight. I'm knee deep in guitar parts swapping right now. Putting together some guitars for the studio. Single coils + Basswood = Awesome!! 8)

Unfortunately, many of the software programs designed to hijack a computer's browser are intentionally designed to be difficult to remove and/or detect. Below are recommendations on how these types of programs can be prevented and/or removed.

Some web pages and programs are designed to automatically change your browser's settings. For example, a web page or program may automatically change your default home page to an alternate home page.

Also, you may also wish to consider running the Microsoft System Restore and restore computer to an earlier date.

Good luck!

My computer picked up a virus a while back while I was navigating through a legitimate site that someone had inbedded a virus in and my IT buddy had to "flatten"the computer to get rid of it.He said that it was the most invasive virus he'd seen as I shut down the computer immediately when I noticed it happening. These things can do a lot of damage in a couple od seconds.
