The Doors for the past fav.

There is a current West Coast band that I have seen a few times and enjoy but not real popular yet, that is Whitestarr.

So the lesson of the story is to see as many bands as you can today in the hopes that 40 years down the line at least one of them will be legendary, and you can say "Man, I saw them when they were nothin'." :D

Yeah but I say the same thing about Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, etc. Its all relative. Sorry about the hijack.

Another favorite California band from more recent times is Stone Temple Pilots. Man they rocked it hard and heavy.

You forgot Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, and a few others whose names have escaped me for the moment.

Other California Bands that are good:

Big Brother and the Holding Company (with Janis of course)
Creedence Clearwater Revival

I love Tower of Power... a little East Bay Grease from Oakland.

Also, the West Coast now has the Stanley Cup for the first time ever. Go Ducks! So clearly, California is home to the best in music AND sports!

Tower of Power, wow, I saw them back in the early 70's!

I have a friend who is a guitarist for another California based band that has been around a long time, Malo.

Man, this is the best way to learn about new music! I've heard like eight new names or so. I'm actually a sucker for Janis, t Doors, and the Grateful Dead, but the Stone Temple Pilots hooked me in too! That's also pretty crazy stuff to have a family member who's had success in the music industry! I would have killed to see Morrison and those guys, nevertheless open for them!

The Beach Boys is another California band that did and still does pretty good for themselves.

Yeah, but Brian Wilson isn't doin' so hot. Not after all of his tragedies. Now he just kinda stands there pretending to dance before walking off the stage early. I didn't know the chili peppers were from CA! That's pretty cool

I think there is only 1 of the original Beach Boys play in the Beach Boys now.
