these threads do pop up from time to time, icon as a descriptive word for a person doesn't work as well as most influential perhaps, either way the choices for both are many. to keep it simple:

Eric Clapton and David Gilmore

I'm only 14 and nobody seems to know of the actual musicians now its all horrible pop boy bands.

also Eric Clapton got me onto buying fender for which i have to love the guy :)

well my favorite guitarist and inspiration will always be Eric Clapton. When I first heard "Layla" I was in love and picked up the guitar and haven't stopped playing since. As for iconic guitarist.....I'd probably say Jimi. What he did for rock can never be done again
