What do you prefer the body of your guitar to be made of? I have a Jim Root Tele and a Les Paul Jnr both with mahogany bodies and the tone is awesome, however i recently got an American HH deluxe Strat which I found out is made of alder and it also has a great tone.
Whats your fav?

I honestly don't give a hoot what kind of wood they are made of. I prefer if they are shaped like Strats (damned sexy) or SG's.

I'm actually starting to like Basswood bodies a lot. But only certain ones that I'm finding from cheap guitars. If I strum the guitar and the sound jumps off the guitar body, and it's extremely lightweight, I want it. I ran across another one today on a Carlo Robelli blue burst guitar. The notes just resonated like crazy without it being plugged in. Looks like I'll have another frankenstrat to assemble. Just waiting to get paid. 8)

As far as tone goes the type of wood doesn't matter to me that much although I've found that some woods do sustain better than others such as black ash.I love the look of spalted maple, burl walnut and other heavily grained woods.

Depends. I like mahogany with humbuckers, but for my Strats I guess I'd have to say Alder. I don't really think I've ever played an Ash Strat, but my Peavey T-60 is Swamp Ash. Heavy as can be.

I like a burpy-toned, ash bodied Precision Bass. That boingy P pickup works well with ash wood.

I like an alder fretted Jazz Bass. But for fretless I like a lighter wood such as basswood...or a smaller alder body that just weighs less. Agathis is also great for fretless. I'd even like to hear a pine bodied fretless...

Maple Spectors and Rickenbacker 4001's have their own thing going for hard rock/metal...and other stuff I guess.
