I won a free iPad a few weeks back. I saw the irig and thought it might be cool to record backing tracks or song ideas and jam over. Is it possible with this device? I'm hoping I can do more with my new iPad then just post on the Fender forums all day.

I bought the irig to use with my iPhone. So far I've just messed around with the amps and effects. You can record too but that is another upgrade and I haven't messed with it yet.

Can you play over the tracks you record and here both on the headphone. Sorry for the dumb question

According to the list of features, yes, you can play over backing tracks. I haven't gone that far with it yet though.

I got the stuff for that for my birthday, fun little app, I have to admit, although it does pick up some strange crackling interference whenever I play with the effects.

It has a feature in which you can record whatever you play into it, but sadly, I don't think you can play over it, and on top of that, it's tricky to play with. There are also pre-set tracks you can play on there, but again, you can't play over them.

But the sound you get from the amp effects on there are really entertaining, and if you can figure out the recording doo-dad then it makes a great tool for writing down song ideas. :)

I bought the irig but was very unhappy with it and ended up buying the Line 6 Pocket Pod instead. You might want to pop into your local Guitar Denter and see if they will let you try the irig out! It couldn't hurt to ask.......
