Thanks, fellas.

Neighbours took the shot and have the flu, but some took the shot and haven’t got it, and now with different strains . . . I hear ya, Rollie.

Remember the old school test by asking, “What did the author mean?”.
I thought I might write in relation to the amount of Big Brother and other technology that has been accelerated in delivery to our well being in the past two years, and even in the past two months.

Interestingly, I have Amazon Prime specifically to take advantage of buying features and delivery. True there are other offerings, but I have yet to take them up on the movies or the music until I complete my perusal as to what is involved with some scepticism. YMMV. Briefly, my cable company is now promoting Prime. It is included in one of their tier packages. Further research into the various company affiliations and connecting the global dots brings questions of how what appears to have been competition in the past is now a welcoming partner? Also, there are reports of products that were no longer welcomed by Amazon because they didn’t fit the mold. This and more is another story, however.

I now get plenty of promotion asking why I’m not using these added services, how great they are, and pointing me to activation. One advantage is Cable (and others) and Amazon can now share data with one agreement. That coverage is a curious marriage. Phht!

Regardless, I have more music services than time to use them, and I haven’t prescribed to Alexa, but Alexa sure does want to or maybe does already prescribe to me. Just sayin’. Good if you want it, not so much if it encroaches on other features that don’t directly relate. IMHO (Example: Maybe, I don’t want it to start my car). Maybe, I want that 4K TV but barebones or with selective additions. Maybe, that 8K will come down in price with more hooks to draw you in, and only with more loss of privacy or agreements subject to change. Timing is everything.

With all the rest of the commotion, combining of services, and game plan around us, the flu in this writing is the technology, application, and it’s change in us that the poem alludes to, and the bug is getting worse quickly. There is no preventative shot or antidote.
Seemed a fitting time to write the poem with that coronavirus dilemma surrounding us in this day and age.

Cheers!

The printing press was a wondrous invention and embraced by all. It created good and bad for society. History is repeating itself.

Nice analogy, Gary, and very well said. I, myself, cannot keep up with all the changes. This tier, that tier, this package, that package. My satellite company has a Netflix channel. Like you were saying about Amazon Prime. I already have them both because both my son and I are disabled and we don't get out much. So I splurge a little on TV but maybe I'm saving money overall by not going to restaurants and such.

My satellite company sent me a new "free" remote that has voice recognition. In a way it's pretty cool. If I want to watch an Eric Clapton concert, I just press a button on the remote and say, "Eric Clapton live concert in Japan". My words appear on the TV screen, YouTube starts up and the concert begins. Easy peasy, right? But, is that remote only listening when its button is pushed? I'm not paranoid and I have nothing to hide but you never know. I have had more than one IT friend tell me to put a piece of electrical tape over my laptop's camera. They both told me that certain agencies have the technology to remotely turn on your camera without its light coming on. So I did. Not that they would see anything. Like right now, if they were watching, they would see my not handsome, first-thing-in-the-morning face, unshaven and my two-feet-long full head of hair all over the place. It would serve them right.

It's early and, when I looked back at what I wrote, I said to myself, "this has nothing to do with poetry" so I think I'll cut and paste it somewhere else. I totally digressed into something else.

Oh heck, I'll leave it here and leave you with this:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
If I were smart
I'd be like you

Thank you, for your kind words and fine poetry, Marky. One of the best poems I’ve ever read.
Actually, I’m a piker compared to the many here, including yourself. My father was well read, well traveled and, amongst other things, smart, and he told me to learn at least one new thing every day. The problems are either I don’t understand, I don’t remember, and I ain’t rich.

Mind you I married a good woman and she’s not smart having stuck herself with me. Hey! I guess I am smart. In reality, she really is smart because I can’t get away with anything.
Pretty neat voice control of the TV, Marky. Makes perfect sense for you two to enjoy those features We experienced the same system at our friends’ home on New Year’s Eve. He was a diehard for privacy as I was when it came to computing. How does that go ? “If you can’t beat ‘em join them?” Ta da! That’s the premise we discussed. :P

What is smart? I dunno.
Smart is many things ya know?

It’s not the things you read or write
It’s when you flick another’s light
To see the truth or guide the way
To make them knowledgeable today
And when they’ve learned much more than you
Then you can say that they’re smart too.

Those are great explanations Bros and they turned on the light for me, thank you. Prose at least the way you both write it is as refreshing as poetry so keep up the good work Gary and Marky. In regard to "smart" today I'm not feeling it so much. The words that are stuck in my head right now are the old lyric from Peter Green "I can't help about the shape I'm in I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin" yeah, that about covers it. Being not smart at the moment is the frosting I suppose

Thank you, Gary, I'm glad you liked my poem.

I like your poem too
Your father was smart and you are too
When I grow up, I'll be like you
And Rollie too :) Too many too's
Maybe so
But that's all I've got to show
 I love that line too, Rollie. :)

When it comes to poetry (and a whole lot more) you are the king, Rollie. Long live the King. :D

the thought of "time, life, love"

to keep love in your life all of the time
time, in the present and future
the present goes so quickly
the future comes so fast
both compressed in an instant
and then become the past

life, the most precious gift
cherished and nurtured
by most
wasted in the name of fortune or fame
sometimes both
therein among people becomes the rift

love, when, always
for how long, forever
where is it's source
your heart
how is it shown
your mind
and so, keep love in your life all of the time

Thank you Marky. A guitar player that I know sent me the instrumental part of a song he is working on and asked if I would write lyrics around the words time life love. I started writing and wrote about 5 pages but couldn't get anything coherent around the request. After a week of trying I came out with this, still not coherent but with some editing maybe someday it will be close. 8)

Writing like that takes more than the tap of a keyboard, a pen. or words. It takes brilliance, creativity, and a soul that reaches another’s soul with admiration. You have that brilliance, creativity, and soul that reaches us all, Rollie.

It’s a gift and you use it well.

Thanks, for including us

- Gary
