Hi eccentric0: two things. First is you'll need to be a lot more specific about the model for someone to stand a chance of knowing. Corona, Ensenada, Korea, Japan or elsewhere in the Far East, for example? The overwhelming likelyhood is your bod will be alder, but it ain't necessarily so.

Second: you could also post a good, clear, focused photo of the inside of the neck pocket where the wood is usually left bare and one of the timber minded folks round here might be able to ID it for you visually. Sometimes you can tell the wood from a small glimpse of it like that, sometimes you can't.

Either way, more info, please.

Cheers - C

Solid or trans finish? American Series or American Deluxe? Photos, especially in that neck pocket? More info gets you a more certain response.

But it's probably alder.

I'll guess alder.

Unless it's Japanese, then I'll guess basswood.

What difference does it make anyway?

Yes, after all, if it does make a difference you must be able to tell just by listening, right?

Finally I've just hauled out my 2006 Frontline catalog. The HH Strats in it include:

Flat Head Showmaster - alder body
Showmaster Elite - mahogany
American Special Series Strat-o-Sonic - Honduran mahogany
American Series - alder
Special Edition Showmaster - FMT, QMT or QBT figured tops on basswood bodies

And the Mexican Standard HH also has an alder body.

Take your pick.

Cheers - C

My 2007 Mexi HSS is alder. Yours probably is as well, but I am curious. Why exactly do you want to know?

If I've learned anything from TV, it's that the only real way to find the answer is to burn the guitar and analyze the smoke through chromatic spectrography.

And then you can send it to Ceri for repair.
