Remember that scene in "Road House" with the Jeff Healey Band?

Actually, when you relax forget about the pressure and you have fun. There will always be someone who knows more, is faster, better, more creative, more technical. No matter what your skill level, there will always be someone who will love what you do. Just roll with that and be happy and have fun. You can either have fun of beat yourself up every time you play and never have fun.

As long as somebody puts some $$$ in my hand at the end of the evening I figure I'm not that bad.

I say take compliments where you can get them. "Good" or being good is very subjective. I too think I could be better than I am, but I do get compliments when I play. Just remember that there is always someone out there that may or may not like your music or style. Just have fun and don't worry what others think. Take advise and incorporate it into your playing as you feel like you need to.

so true... look at Jimmy Page when he's not playing an Acoustic guitar.

DISCLAIMER: I love Zeppelin, appreciate Jimmy Page... you just have to admit he can get a bit sloppy... especially when compared to Alex Lifeson.

I think it's probably better to know when you are "bad". If you can stay out of the "bad" zones, you know - wrong notes, timing, all that stuff, then you will be, by definition, "good". After that it's just the "music" part. You know - the soul part. The part that touches you. Once you have that, you'll know!

You know?

I've heard guitarists and bands that were quite good passed off as being the shitz because the people listening to them didn't like the style of music they were playing. All too often I've gone to see a group that was "fantastic" only to find out that were if anything mediocre but they just played the music people liked to hear.If other guitarists tell you that you are good Take their word for it because we all know that guitarists usually aren't usually quick to compliment anothers playing unless it's truly good.I don't think there's a guitarist alive who is perfectly pleased with his/her playing and they're always finding ways to improve unless your name is Yngwie.
