I had never seen this band perform live and had only heard their
popular recordings until last night. My wife and I weren't sure what to expect when we walking into the arena and saw hundreds of light panels and gear stretching across about a 150 foot wide stage.

The current production consists of about 23 musicians and vocalists with the main band being two multi-keyboarists, three guitarists, a bass player, drummer and six piece string section.

We were both pleasantly surprised and highly impressed with the sound, performance and talent of the amazing group of musicians. It appears that
many of them are classically trained and the many vocalists covered a lot of ground from classical to rock and opera to acoustic ballads. It became apparent quite early on that these people knew how to use dynamics to bring out the best in their current show.

They took the stage at about 8:10pm and didn't finish until 11:00pm. Not one person could be seen leaving the show. The variety and talent was superb and never a dull moment. The light show and visuals along with the wireless guitarists, bass, violinist and singers circulating throughout the arena (and at the most surprising times) also added drama to the fine performances. If you get the chance to see them, I'd highly recommend it.

Also, they seem to be very generous and made announcements that
a good percentage of last night's ticket sales would be going to needy
charities.

Here is the first clip that I was able to take during the show. This was at about the 2:00 mark and they went on for another hour.

I was really impressed, Bill! They had risers and ramps and were running all over the arena at different times. The female singers were awesome too! The dynamics were amazing!!
This is what the stage looked like when we walked into the arena :

They come to Vegas next week. I'm hoping to get floor tickets for the show. I've never seen them live either, but what really impresses me is that there is more than one group putting on shows in different cities at the same time. For each group to perform at that level with different people is just amazing.

Would be awesome to see them live. Looks like a cool show aside from the music, which was undoubtedly stellar as well.

Some of the female singers were born "after" the whole project was formed. They introduced everyone about 2/3 of the way through the close to three hour show.

They all seem to be classically trained musicians and singers and the drummer did an amazing 15 minute solo. I haven't heard a drum solo since seeing Carmine Appice with Beck, Bogert and Appice.

This show has been an annual Holiday tradition for me and my concert buddies for years. Although after moving across the country I've missed the last couple.

I'm hoping to catch it here in North Carolina in the next couple of weeks.

I'll never listen to Christmas music before Halloween, but right after November begins, I break out the TSO. That's what I'm listening to now and also what I'm jamming to on the guitar. :)

By the way, the roots of this show go back to the band Savatage. Good stuff.

Yep and they talked about that. 1996 -
Savatage toured Europe and Japan. Instead of touring America, the group's members - inspired by the success of "Christmas Eve" - write and record the first Trans-Siberian Orchestra album, Christmas Eve & Other Stories.

And there are two touring bands. Split between the original members.

Last years show had the most use of "fire" I had ever seen at a show of any kind. Pretty impressive. Though I couldn't get into the story telling between songs. My wife liked it and the tickets were a present to her so that's all that matters.

Carmine's younger brother, Vinny, is also a great drummer that knows how to use dynamics well.

He's probably best known for his drum work with Sabbath, Dio and Rick
Derringer.

Seems like Savatage does the summer tours and TSO does the spring and winter tours.

I thought this was a thread about Canada's T.S.O.-The Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
