Just picked up a Jet City JCA2112RC 20 watt, 1x12 combo and it is amazing. Great rock tone, early 80s metal. It really compliments guitars with P90 pckups. It is designed my Mike Soldano and is priced at $299 for an all tube amp.

Check it out.

There is a new amp out called a VHT 6 watt amp. Hand wired, 6v6, fairly good quality looking stuff, looks like it's built to last. Perhaps a big step up from the Epi valve jr. The combo version has a 10" and it goes for $200. How would this amp compare to the Fender Vibro Champ XD?

So far I've had this amp for two weeks now and seems to be holding up very well :D The raw classic rock tone it produces was the selling point to me. Great amp IMHO and there seems to be lots of great reviews on this amp. Rumors has it that the 100 watt version is modeled after the Soldano SLO amp and sold for a fraction of what the USA made SLO goes for, $3000. Demo the amp out at your local music shop.

Here is a better demo of the amp I have, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2ZKBD2hmWY

I played one at GC. I don,t remember the model but I decided not to waste my money on it. It sounded cheap. Aways remember when you buy a tube amp you get what you pay for.

I've had a VHT special 6 for a couple of weeks, works as advertised. Seems really solid. With a blues driver in front sounds good to my ears.

I believe chinese manufactures build to whatever quality is specified. Guitar amps aren't rocket science.

Actually, the build quality is quite good and Mike Soldano designs Jet City amps.
I tried the 20 watter and it didn't sound cheap at all.

Not everything coming from China is cheap crap. The way Egnater explained it to me was there are different level of manufacturing in China. The more you pay, the higher level of quality you get. My Egnater Rebels's made in China and is built light years ahead of what my MIM HRDlx was. It's all in the specs. If you spec garbage, you get garbage. My Egnater has been put through the mill for a little over a year with not one single glitch and has been as reliable as any quality gear I've ever owned. The VHT Special 6 is another example. You can easily repair or mod that amp too. VHT gives you the schematic.

You mean like the HRD and VM series amps?

I really don't see the difference. MIM/MIC. It all depends on the design team and how good the materials and QC are. Egnater inspects and tests every amp here in the U.S. I already have some American Made amps so I'm covered. The way they make them now with PCB's, ribbon connectors and spade connectors, I really don't care who "assembles" them. For example the 65 Blackface Reissues I've seen, the power supply caps as well as others are from Illinois Capacitor and made in Taiwan.

I haven,t played any HRD and I wouldn,t even think about any VM series. Im not a Fender amp groupie though I do have 3 fender amps. A 1990 59 Bassman, a 94 The Twin, and a Super Champ XD. I love the Bassman, The Twin is too loud and heavy. The Super Champ is ok on the clean channel and I have no use for the effects. Small cheap amps are nice I do own a Marshall Class 5, it sound good but does rattle a bit it does breakup nice though. I do like the small Vos amps.

Glad to hear someone actually playing one then making an experienced comment on it. I too was puzzled by referring to the amp's tone as sounding cheap.
