Anyone here ever make a cigar box guitar? i am getting the stuff together to make one, it just seems kinda fun and cool. I actually have 2 gretsch pickups from an Electromatic jet pro that i might put in if i get good at making them.

That's awesome, that thing doesn't sound half bad. Not sure I'd want one myself though...

i found this site and got interested in it. I am getting the stuff to build a few this weekend. I have nothing to do with the site so please do not think it is spam or i am affiliated with it. I just thought it looked cool as hell and since i have some pickups and stuff laying around i wanted to see how they would get. i will post pics as i progress.

Yeah man. I plan on building one this winter as long as I get some spare time.

These folks I know use a cigar box guitar called a "low-bow". It has bass strings and guitar strings on it. It sounds huge. They play it through a 59 Bassman. Not the reissue. I mean a real Bassman and use all kinds of pedal with it. The sound just blows you away.

Here's a link. Fun people. Check out the first video. It starts off really slow and simple, then it takes off after the intro.

Here's another cigar box guitar site with some free plans.

Beware, I know a few cigar box guitarists and there pretty much off the hook and really passionate about their music and guitars. Very cool stuff.

thanks for the extra links... I just got 3 really nice sturdy wooden boxes from a guy i work with that is crazy cigar guy. they are perfect, even got a small one i might make into an electric ukulele. I have lots of pickups laying around i will just need to get a few odds and ends. I think they look really fun, don't plan on getting crazy deep into it but i guess nobody really "plans" to get over the top into things.

I made one a while back, but I could never get it set up just right, because I didnt use any kind of truss rod. Might have another go at it sometime.
