I like the show, I think it's interesting to watch people leave their comfort zone and work day in and day out to learn how to ballroom dance. It's a reality show, yes, but the contestants have to actually participate and learn something, so there is accountability. I can appreciate the physical aspect of it.

I don't like some of the so called stars popping up now and then, like Kate G and the Jersey punk, but it's been fun watching Emmit Smith, Curt Warner and even Betty White learning to dance.

And if you've ever seen Edyta you'd really know why I like the show.

Apparently you are not alone. Some dude in Milwaukee shot his tv with a shotgun.

I think they are paid each week they stay in the competition and win a large amount if they win.

To me watching Dancing with the Stars is only one small step above having a power outage and having to play my acoustic all night,..... .in the dark.

They get paid 60k to be on the show, regardless of how long they stay on. The top 3 get additional prize money at the end. And it brings them back into the spotlight for a little while. Why wouldn't they do it

There is absolutely nothing realistic about these reality shows and frankly I'd rather watch a goldfish cough up hairballs. These shows are aimed squarely at the hopelessly obtuse and if there isn't enough "drama" in them they'll no doubt create some to get the gullible audience more interested.Even though I don't watch any of this vacuous, inane drivel, I can imagine that the whole Palin thing was put into the show to gain higher audience interest therefore higher ratings, therefore more money. I dare say they had purposely rigged the "vote"to have Palin come out on top for no other reason but to add more drama and insense viewers thus guaranteeing higher ratings. When the next episode comes on change stations before you succumb to permanent brain rot.

I don't care for a lot of reality shows but I'm open minded enough to give a look at some of the shows that require talent to succeed. Shows like Top Chef, Project Runway, DWTS. there was even one for SoCal Speedshop which was pretty cool but it only did one season. And Hell's Kitchen just for fun.

But for Dancing With the Stars specifically, I find it compelling to see world class athletes who are used to being the best at what they do be humbled by the difficulty of the dance and have to work their way up. Watching Emmit Smith (who was a class act for the Cowboys when they didn't have many) busting his butt and trying to overcome his shyness and nagging football injuries to win the "coveted Mirror Ball Trophy" was inspiring.

If that's rotting my brain, so be it. We all take away something different from what we see, or choose to see.

Lets face it there are 2 things going on with a contest like this.
1) The judges vote based on technique and performance. They also consider what level a dancer starts out at the beginning in contrast to how much they evolve over time.

2) The people vote. With the viewers voting, it is at least in part going to be affected by popularity. I think it has been shown that younger viewers do most of the voting. Bristol in being 20'ish identifies more with the age group who votes than Brandy in her 30's.

Jennifer Grey has been in an iconic movie which helps her in the voting as well as being a great dancer and more gorgeous than she was in the movie. I dont see how former Gov. of Alaska Sarah Palin could have anything couid have anything to do with the results. Its simply a case of who is popular with the people who vote. I think we have seen this in other areas in recent years.
